We’re deep into the latter half of Fortnite Season 9 and the Fortbyte system has continued to provide a large amount of content for the playerbase (expect to see it return). Today’s Fortbyte (Friday of Week 7) presents us with Fortbyte #03: Accessible By Using The Skull Trooper Emoji At The Western Most Point.
The Fortbyte system is a series of challenges scheduled for Season 9 that are released ‘bit-by-bit’ daily. Everyday at 2pm BST, a Fortbyte is released and it usually takes the form of a ‘treasure hunt’ style challenge. As you collect Fortbytes you will acquire more cosmetic rewards similar to those found in the Battle Pass. For each individual Fortbyte you collect, you’ll unveil a tile on a large image comprised entirely of Fortbyte tiles. This image features Bunker Jonesy and an ominous ‘painting’, which is related to the Season 9 storyline.
This article focuses on Fortbyte #03: Accessible By Using The Skull Trooper Emoji At The Western Most Point, which as predicted is another Battle Pass bound Fortbyte, just not the item we specifically predicted (expect Kyo (black) over the weekend or early next week).
Fortbyte #03: Skull Trooper Emoji
The Skull Trooper emoji is located at tier 58 of the Battle Pass. This is an emoji item so you won’t need to equip it to complete this challenge. If you were able to complete Thursday’s (Fortbyte #12) challenge, you shouldn’t have a problem completing this as it’s only one tier higher than yesterday, making the jump quite small. However, this does make it the fifth Fortbyte in a row to require a large amount of progress to be made on the Battle Pass.
Fortnite Season 9 Fortbyte #03 Map
The western most point on the map is located in Snobby Shores, so head over there. A5 on the main map’s grid.
The western most point on the map is something that previous season challenges have made use of. This is good for us because they placed signs at all the furthest (and highest) points on the map, meaning we’re looking for a very specific sign with a compass and the letter ‘W’ on it.
If you head to the second house from the south (in the row of houses there) and head to the west of it, you’ll find a cliff overlooking the sea. There you will see Fortbyte #03 and the sign indicating that this is the western most point on the map. Not a bad idea to keep this place in mind as there is a good chance it will be reused for later challenges like the height ones were.
Fortbyte #03 Video Guide
This marks five Fortbytes in a row that require significant Battle Pass investment to complete, spanning the whole working week. The challenges that require Battle Pass investment tends to ‘front load’ their difficulty onto having completing your Battle Pass as opposed to any inherent difficulty in locating the Fortbyte itself (for instance, less direct clues). Either Epic has run out of ideas for more inspired treasure hunt style challenges, or more likely, they’re pushing players to keep up (or catch up by paying) with their Battle Pass as they know player engagement drops off later in a season.
This Fortbyte follows on from Thursday’s Fortbyte #12 and Wednesday’s Fortbyte #59, both of which required considerable investment into the Battle Pass to complete.
