It’s the sunny season in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, which means now’s the best time to get fishing if you want some Bells as there’s a lot of high value critters to be caught. As well as there being plenty of sharks, there are also fish like the super rare Dorado.
The Dorado is one of the most valuable critters in the game, it going for quite the premium when sold at Nook’s Cranny. It’s also incredibly rare like the Golden Trout and Stringfish before it, so you may want to stock up on plenty of bait.

As you may be able to tell, the Dorado is a large fish with striking gold scales.
Dorado Location, Time of Day & Size
The Dorado is one of many new fish that can be caught from June 1st. It’s located in the rivers on your island and also mystery islands, and is one of many high value fish that can be found for the summer season.
It casts a very large shadow and can be found swimming from 4AM to 9PM every day.
It’s very rare, so be sure to stock up on plenty of bait before you try to catch one. It took us a few hours of constant baiting and fishing before one eventually spawned, though you may be far luckier.
Dorado Blathers Donation
Here’s what Blathers has to tell you about the Dorado when you go to donate it:
“Woo-hoo! So shiny! This massive fish’s name, dorado, means “golden” in Spanish—a fitting title. They are also quite valuable, I understand. I congratulate you on your top-notch angling! They are rather large, eh wot? It makes one wonder what all they might feed on… Fowl, perhaps?! One quivers at the very thought! Well, it’ll be safe behind glass, no doubt. Quite safe, hoo…”
Dorado Bells Price
The Dorado in New Horizons will fetch you 15,000 Bells when sold to Nook’s Cranny. This makes it the joint most valuable fish in the entirety of New Horizons.
You can also hold onto it until C.J. comes to your island, who will buy it for 20% more than usual for 18,000 Bells.
When Is The Dorado Available Until?
You have plenty of opportunities to catch the Dorado in New Horizons, it spawning from June 1st until September 30th.
This means you have ample opportunities to catch the Dorado before it rotates out, but don’t forget there’s always the option of utilising time travel to go to an exact date and time in New Horizons if you miss out.
The Dorado is one of 80 fish in total in New Horizons to catch if you want to unlock the Golden Fishing Rod.
