There are so many new fish to catch in June in New Horizons that it’s difficult to keep on top of them all. As well as there being a new squad of sharks to track down, you also have loads of new river fish to catch, such as the Arowana.
The Arowana is a rare and valuable fish in New Horizons that is unfortunately becoming endangered in real life as well. It’s a shame, because they sound like cool fish: they can jump extremely high and many times higher than their own height.
Here’s everything you need to know to catch the Arowana fish in New Horizons.

Here’s what you say when you catch the Arowana in New Horizons:
“I caught an arowana! I’d make a joke, but I don’t ‘wana.“
The Arowana looks very much like a goldfish that’s eaten too much, it having orange and black scales.
Arowana Location, Time of Day & Size
The Arowana is one of many new fish added at the start of June in New Horizons, and also one of many high value fish that can be caught in rivers. It’s as valuable as the Arapaima, for reference.
It casts a large shadow and can be found swimming from 4PM-9AM every day in your rivers.
The Arowana is relatively rare, though you can always craft some bait and chuck it into a river to increase the chances of a spawn. Repeat this process until one eventually appears, though it is always based on random chance.
Arowana Blathers Donation
Here’s what Blathers has to tell you about the Arowana when you go to donate it:
“It would seem your angling expertise knows no bounds! This beauteous arowana fetches a pretty Bell, though I’d venture to say that its true price is beyond measure. The arowana is an excellent jumper. Some have been seen leaping six feet out of the water, eh wot! Alas, it has also been on the endangered-species list for some time. It’s up to us to do all we can to help preserve such magnificent creatures for the years to come.“
Arowana Price
The Arowana in New Horizons will fetch you 10,000 Bells when sold to Nook’s Cranny. This makes it one of the most valuable fish in the game, though it is some way short of the massive amount the absolutely most valuable fish can go for.
You can also hold onto it until C.J. comes to your island, who will buy it for 33% more than usual for 13,300 Bells. You can also give C.J. three of them and he will give you a special model in return.
When Is The Arowana Available Until?
You have plenty of opportunities to catch the Arowana in New Horizons, it spawning from June 1st until September 30th.
This gives you loads of chances to track down this sneaky fish, but don’t forget there’s always the option of utilising time travel to go to an exact date and time in New Horizons if you miss out.
The Arowana is one of 80 fish in total in New Horizons to catch if you want to unlock the Golden Fishing Rod.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons, which is out now exclusively for Switch, is so life consuming that it won’t make you ‘wana play anything else. From our review:
“New Horizons is a great continuation of an already fantastic series of games, and paying back Tom Nook’s loan has never been so fun.”
