Giant Snakehead New Horizons

It’s hotting up in the real world, and it’s also hotting up in Animal Crossing: New Horizons with a tonne of new fish to catch from June onwards. There are even sharks to catch, but don’t overlook the rest of the fish, such as the uncommon Giant Snakehead.

Like a couple of the new fish in June, the Giant Snakehead has been a part of the Animal Crossing franchise since the Gamecube game, though it used to only spawn within rivers before moving elsewhere. They don’t mess around, either: Giant Snakeheads are known to eat their own.

Here’s everything you need to know to catch the Giant Snakehead fish in New Horizons.

Here’s what you say when you catch the Giant Snakehead in New Horizons:

I caught a giant snakehead! Um…but I asked for a medium?

The Giant Snakehead, despite its name, doesn’t look much like a snake, it actually looking far closer to the Bass you find in the game. We initially thought it was one when we caught it and nearly cried.

Giant Snakehead Location, Time of Day & Size

The Giant Snakehead is one of many new fish added at the start of June in New Horizons, but one of only a couple that spawns in ponds.

It casts a large shadow and can be found swimming from 9AM-4pm every day in your ponds. This is one of the only fish added in June that spawn during the morning hours.

The Giant Snakehead is fairly common, so you should have no trouble finding one eventually, though you can always craft some bait and chuck it into a ponds to increase the chances of a spawn. Repeat this process until one eventually appears, though it is always based on random chance.

Here’s what Blathers has to tell you about the Giant Snakehead when you go to donate it:

The giant snakehead is quite a sight to behold, wot! One glance conjurs up visions of its namesake. This resilient creature can even find a home in the mud, where it is able to breathe. As a matter of fact, it dislikes cold weather, so during wintertime the mud serves as its temporary home. I hear that they eat anything that swims past their head… While odd, I feel a sense of owlship with them.

Giant Snakehead Price

The Giant Snakehead in New Horizons will fetch you 5,500 Bells when sold to Nook’s Cranny. This is a pretty good amount of Bells considering that they aren’t exactly rare, though the amount of other fish in the rivers means that they may be harder to catch than usual

You can also hold onto it until C.J. comes to your island, who will buy it for 33% more than usual for 7,500 Bells. You can also give C.J. three of them and he will give you a special model in return.

When Is The Giant Snakehead Available Until?

You have plenty of opportunities to catch the Giant Snakehead in New Horizons, it spawning from June 1st until September 30th.

This huge window to catch them means that you will almost definitely be able to find at least a couple of them, especially as they are just uncommon rarity. That said, there’s always the option of utilising time travel to go to an exact date and time in New Horizons if you miss out.

The Giant Snakehead is one of 80 fish in total in New Horizons to catch if you want to unlock the Golden Fishing Rod. You will, of course, need at least a flimsy fishing rod to catch the Giant Snakehead.
