Animal Crossing: New Horizons is going to ask a tonne of your time on your way to filling out your Critterpedia. From the start of June, players can catch many new exotic fish, which includes the Saddled Bichir.
While the Saddled Bichir in New Horizons is nowhere near the most lucrative fish in the game, it does seem to be one of the oldest and most difficult to catch with its spawn rate being rare in rivers. This is because there are currently many fish that will spawn in New Horizons.
Here’s everything you need to know to catch the Saddled Bichir fish in New Horizons.

Here’s what you say when you catch the Saddled Bichir in New Horizons:
“I caught a saddled bichir! And me without my tiny riding crop…“
The Saddled Bichir is a long fish with almost like spikes ridged along its spine. It is somewhat rare and only spawns during specific times.
Saddled Bichir Location, Time of Day & Size
The Saddled Bichir is one of many new fish that can be caught from June 1st. It’s located in the rivers on your island and also mystery islands, and is one of many high value fish that can be found for the summer season.
It casts a large shadow and can be found swimming from 9PM-4AM every day. This makes it one of the only truly night-based fish to catch in the game, so you better drink some coffee.
It’s relatively rare, though you can always craft some bait and chuck it into a river to increase the chances of a spawn. Repeat this process until one eventually appears.
Saddled Bichir Blathers Donation
Here’s what Blathers has to tell you about the Saddled Bichir when you go to donate it:
“What an elegant specimen you’ve found. The saddled bichir has a look entirely its own. They have poor eyesight, so they use their fine-tuned sniffers to seek out prey. Can you imagine relying solely on your sense of smell to find food? And if one nostril became clogged, would you be unable to tell how far away the scent was?”
Saddled Bichir Price
The Saddled Bichir in New Horizons will fetch you 4,000 Bells when sold to Nook’s Cranny. This isn’t the best price for a fish in the game, but it certainly beats the dread Sea Bass.
You can also hold onto it until C.J. comes to your island, who will buy it for 33% more than usual for 6,000 Bells.
When Is The Saddled Bichir Available Until?
You have plenty of opportunities to catch the Saddled Bichir in New Horizons, it spawning from June 1st until September 30th.
This means you have ample loads of chances to catch the Saddled Bichir before it rotates out, but don’t forget there’s always the option of utilising time travel to go to an exact date and time in New Horizons if you miss out.
The Saddled Bichir is one of 80 fish in total in New Horizons to catch if you want to unlock the Golden Fishing Rod.
