Read our guides!

With us now entering the summer months, it’s also shark season in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. The largest of them all is the Whale Shark, who, despite its size, is also the friendliest of them all.

The Whale Shark is one of the rarest fish in the game, though it is available throughout an entire day, unlike the rest of the sharks found in New Horizons. It can either be displayed, sold, or donated to Blathers.

Here’s everything you need to know to catch the Whale Shark in New Horizons, one of the many new fish for June.

Here’s what you say when you catch the Whale Shark in New Horizons:

“Thar she blows! I caught a whale shark! I’m tellin’ ya, it was thiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiis big!”

The Whale Shark is a massive fish with a huge body and almost like a squished face.

Whale Shark Location, Time of Day & Size

Just like every shark added for summer, the Whale Shark is available from the sea surrounding your island. It is a very rare fish, but as it is available all day and night, you should bump into it more than some of the other sharks.

Similarly to all of the other sharks in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, the Whale Shark will have a fin that protrudes out of the water, meaning that it will be easier to spot than normal fish. Don’t forget to pan the camera to get a look at any large fish to see if they have a fin.

Don’t forget to craft some bait if you are struggling to find the Whale Shark, as well as that you will obviously need at least a Flimsy Fishing Rod.

Whale Shark Blathers Donation

Here’s what Blathers has to tell you about the Whale Shark when you go to donate it:

“The mighty whale shark is the largest species of fish in the world with specimens up to 60 feet long! Unlike many of their kin in the shark family, whale sharks are nonviolent, eating only plankton and such. They grow slowly and live long, relaxed lives of filter feeding and leisure in warm waters. So if you ever have to choose a fish as a roommate, you could do worse than the whale shark. Unless you can’t swim.”

The Whale Shark in New Horizons will fetch you13,000 Bells when sold to Nook’s Cranny. All sharks are very valuable for sale in New Horizons, likely due to how rare they are.

You can also hold onto it until C.J. comes to your island, who will buy it for 20% more than usual for 15,600 Bells.

When Are Whale Sharks Available Until?

Whale Sharks are available from the start of June until the end of September, which basically reflects the summer of season and then the start of autumn.

While this is plenty of time to catch the huge fish, don’t forget that you can utilise time travel to skip to its spawning time if you miss out on it.

The Whale Shark is one of 80 fish in total in New Horizons to catch if you want to unlock the Golden Fishing Rod.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons, which is out now exclusively for Switch, is a whale of a time. From our review:

“New Horizons is a great continuation of an already fantastic series of games, and paying back Tom Nook’s loan has never been so fun.”
