The Arapaima has been a part of Animal Crossing since the very first game on the Gamecube, so it’s a bit of a series favourite. It has sold for the same price and spawned in the same place in each game, so it’s definitely consistent.
Here’s everything you need to know to catch the Arapaima fish in New Horizons.
Here’s what you say when you catch the Arapaima in New Horizons:
“I caught an arapaima! How did it get here? Arapaiknow!“
The Arapaima is one of the most unique looking fish in the game, it having red and black scales as well as a squished head.
Arapaima Location, Time of Day & Size
The Arapaima is one of many new fish that can be caught from June 1st. It’s located in the rivers on your island and also mystery islands, and is one of many high value fish that can be found for the summer season.
It casts a huge shadow and can be found swimming from 4PM-9AM every day.
It’s relatively rare, though you can always craft some bait and chuck it into a river to increase the chances of a spawn. Repeat this process until one eventually appears. It took us a good couple of hours until one eventually appeared for us.
The Arapaima also has a higher chance of spawning during rain.
Arapaima Blathers Donation
Here’s what Blathers has to tell you about the Arapaima when you go to donate it:
“The stately arapaima is quite large. Indeed, it is among the largest freshwater fish there are. Furthermore, these fascinating fish make quite the family unit. That is to say, male arapaimas protect their young by holding them gently in their mouths. Meanwhile, female arapaimas swim circles around these full-mouthed fathers fending off predators. It simply goes to show that cold-blooded creatures can be heartwarming too.”
The Arapaima in New Horizons will fetch you 10,000 Bells when sold to Nook’s Cranny. This, just like so many fish added in June, makes it one of the most valuable critters to sell in the game.
You can also hold onto it until C.J. comes to your island, who will buy it for 33% more than usual for 13,000 Bells.
When Is The Arapaima Available Until?
You have plenty of opportunities to catch the Arapaima in New Horizons, it spawning from June 1st until September 30th.
This means you have loads of time to catch the Arapaima before it rotates out, but don’t forget there’s always the option of utilising time travel to go to an exact date and time in New Horizons if you miss out.
The Arapaima is one of 80 fish in total in New Horizons to catch if you want to unlock the Golden Fishing Rod.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons, which is out now exclusively for Switch, is a game that will swallow you whole. From our review:
“New Horizons is a great continuation of an already fantastic series of games, and paying back Tom Nook’s loan has never been so fun.”
