UPDATE: the official Fortnite account has just sent out the first teaser for the new season, suggesting that the Marvel theme will indeed be what we have to look forward to.

ORIGINAL STORY: There have been plenty of hints about the theme for the upcoming Fortnite: Chapter 2 – Season 4, but thanks to an error on the Korean Switch eShop, it’s looking more and more likely that it will be a huge collaboration with Marvel.

The below was posted to Twitter, showcasing an update image on the Fortnite store page with the iconic Marvel style over the Fortnite logo and Thor clearly being visible.

While this isn’t completely certifiable, it does seem like an awful lot of trouble to go through to be a fake. That said, it’s always best to be slightly cynical before things like these are officially confirmed.

This leak ties in with a lot of hints we’ve already seen, such as a comic book mysteriously popping up in the lobby and Thor’s sign being left behind in the Captain America reveal trailer.

The biggest sign of the collaboration being true is that Hypex, a very reputable leaker, has an insider at Epic Games who’s told him that Marvel will indeed be the theme for the coming season, though, as always, err on the side of caution before believing this fully.

Someone’s definitely going to get fired and potentially sued at some point.

If the whole of Season 4 is to be dedicated to Marvel, you get the feeling it might split the Fortnite community quite a lot. While crossovers are always cool if done properly, Fortnite’s gone a bit overboard with them all lately.

It’s also putting the storyline progression in a tricky place, especially as Chapter 2 only just started warming up at the end of Season 2 with the reveal of everything possibly being a simulation. You can’t just ignore that for a whole season of branded content.

It might be worth nothing, though, that this could just be like an “off-season” for Fortnite due to the effects of COVID with a collaboration potentially easier to do than a whole new, original season.

We might find out more in the upcoming event, if there is to be one this season. Season 3 is due to conclude on August 27th, so there’s not much longer left to wait to find out what Season 4 has up its sleeve.

In other Fortnite news, Epic are holding the #FreeFortnite Cup to give players prizes and poke fun at Apple, which includes the Tart Tycoon skin, a parody of the tech giant. You probably don’t need to be informed that they’re currently embroiled in a very ugly legal battle.

Fortnite: Chapter 2 – Season 3 is free-to-play on PC via the Epic Games Store, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and Android.
