Fortnite Season 4 Guide: Search Hungry Gnomes – Hungry Gnomes Locations

Week 8 marks a full return to the scavenger hunt style challenges that were so prolific in the early days of season 4. Generally speaking, this challenge functions almost identically to the ‘Rubber Duckie’ challenge and the ‘Gnome’ challenge from season 3. Just the logic behind where they spawn and the sound effects are altered.

Ultimately, the goal is to search for seven different ‘Hungry Gnomes’. Once you interact with a gnome it will make a sound (a weird, somewhat sad sound) and disappear from view, counting towards your running tally. Like previous challenges of this kind, you do not need to find all seven in one match, so there is no pressure to survive. Just don’t quit the match (die instead) as it’ll undo any progress you made during that match.

The Hungry Gnomes are just that; hungry. They always appear around areas where food is involved. Restaurants, convenience stores, supermarkets and so on. Basically, anywhere that seems to sell food has a relatively high chance of having a gnome in it. I tried checking private kitchens in houses/residences, but they don’t seem to spawn there, just areas with commercially available food. So we’re looking for honest, upstanding gnomes that buy the food they eat (then hide in the corner all suss-like).

Like the season 3 gnomes and season 4 rubber ducks, the Hungry Gnomes will make a sound if you’re close enough to them (roughly 10 metres or so, like the previous challenges). A high-pitched sound saying ‘yum’, ‘nom’ or various eating sounds is what you’re listening out for. Finally, if you want an easier time listening for the sound cues the gnomes make, you can turn up your sound FX volume to make them louder. Fair warning though, this makes gunshots, footsteps and all other sound effects louder too. Turn it up too loud and you might have tinnitus.

Below is an overview of the main map with all the Hungry Gnomes I could locate, circled in red. There are more Hungry Gnomes on the map than the challenge requires (i.e. there is more than seven Gnomes on the map). Personally, I found twelve gnomes, but there are almost assuredly more than the twelve I found. This means you can locate and interact with the seven most convenient for you. The rest will disappear from view after you’ve completed the challenge (but may still be usable even though invisible, just like the gnomes from the previous season were).

Greasy Grove Hungry Gnome

As you would expect, a Hungry Gnome can be found in Greasy Grove. When you go down the stairs into the basement of ‘Durrr Burger’ (the big central building of the town), you will see a metal oil drum. The gnome is hiding just behind that. B7 on the main map’s grid.

Moisty Mire Hungry Gnome

Moisty Mire’s film set has a small dining and cooking area (presumably for the crew and actors, should any human that isn’t a psychotic killer actually exist in Fortnite) on the southwestern edge of the set. The Hungry Gnome is nestled in the southeastern corner of the building, between a sink and a drink fridge. This appears as I9 on the main map’s grid.

Pleasant Park Hungry Gnome

Pleasant Park has a small gas station on the east side. The Hungry Gnome is nestled between the north wall and a produce shelf. This appears as C3 on the main map’s grid.

Retail Row Hungry Gnome

The large supermarket on the northeastern side of Retail Row houses a Hungry Gnome. The gnome itself will be located in the northwestern corner of this particular building, hiding behind some boxes, next to a refrigerated shelf. This appears as H6 on the main map’s grid.

Risky Reels

Risky Reels has a small restaurant on the southwestern edge. In this restaurant lies a Hungry Gnome, nestled between the cash register, some breakable boxes and the western wall. H2 on the main map’s grid.

Salty Springs Hungry Gnome

Soccer Stadium Hungry Gnome

Soccer Stadium Hungry Gnome

The Soccer Stadium, though technically unnamed (not to be confused with the newer World Cup stadium in the northwestern corner of the map), houses a Hungry Gnome. In the centre of the small town is a taco shop, the gnome is on the western wall of the taco shop, next to the large menu opposite the cash register. C5 on the main map’s grid.

Tilted Towers Hungry Gnome

There are a lot of locations you would think to look for a Hungry Gnome in Titled Towers. However, there only appears to be one gnome, in the centre-most building of Tilted Towers. In this building there is a convenience store with the gnome hiding in the back corner nestled between a drink fridge and a produce shelf. D5 on the main map’s grid, near the centre bottom.

Tomato Town Hungry Gnome

Just like Greasy Grove, you’d expect to find a Hungry Gnome at Tomato Town. And just like Greasy Grove, you find it in the town’s name sake; the pizza restaurant (main central building). The gnome is located behind the cash register on the ground floor of the pizza restaurant. This appears as G4 on the main map’s grid.

Unnamed Town (Refrigerator Truck) Hungry Gnome

An unnamed town located at I7 on the main map’s grid has a gas station in it. The Hungry Gnome is in the gas station behind the cash register. This is the same town that has the Week 8 treasure just north of it.

Unnamed Town 2 (Giant Chair) Hungry Gnome

Hungry Gnome locations

An unnamed town located at D8 on the main map’s grid has a gas station in it. Once again, another taco shop houses a Hungry Gnome. Located on the northernmost wall of the taco shop, near the windows behind some metal tables and chairs.

World Cup Stadium

A very new location added in anticipation for the FIFA World Cup houses a Hungry Gnome. Around the perimeter of the soccer fields (where the bleachers are) are numerous food stands. The northeastern food stand houses a gnome, sitting next to a fridge. Located at C2 on the main map’s grid.

Once you’ve interacted with seven Hungry Gnomes, the challenge will be marked as complete and any remaining gnomes you didn’t interact will become invisible (possibly removed from the map if Epic has changed it from season 3). That’s it, finito.

This challenge and the typical weekly treasure hunt challenge are the two more laborious challenges for the week, if you’re looking for some help with the treasure hunt challenge, you can check out that guide here.
