If you want to discover some of the weirdest fish that the ocean has to offer, apparently Animal Crossing: New Horizons is the perfect way to educate yourself. Each month brings with it new fish to catch, one of them for May being the rare Giant Trevally.
The Giant Trevally has only been a part of Animal Crossing since New Leaf, but its chunky nature has already made it a big favourite among fans. Plus just look at that blank face.

The Giant Trevally casts a very large shadow and basically looks like a shark if it had been squished together perhaps a little too hard.
Giant Trevally Location & Time of Day
Similarly to the Mahi-Mahi, an equally big fish that was also added at the start of May, the Giant Trevally can only be found by fishing at the pier. Not the heliport pier, mind you: the one on the southeast or southwest side of your island.
Luckily for you, the Giant Trevally spawn throughout the entire day, though its rare nature may mean that you’re grinding it out for quite a while to find one.
As always, you will need at least a flimsy fishing rod to catch the Giant Trevally. If you’re having trouble finding one, don’t forget to craft bait with clams so more fish will spawn in front of you, while also checking that you’re at the right pier. Yeah, we’ve all made that mistake.
Giant Trevally Price
Once you’ve caught a Giant Trevally in New Horizons, don’t forget to turn it into Blathers at the museum to add it to his collection.
Here’s what Blathers has to tell you about the Giant Trevally:
“”The giant trevally, as befits its name, can reach six feet in length and 180 pounds. Its size and strength has made it a favored opponent for anglers since time immemorial. They are also ingenious hunters, sometimes taking advantage of other predators to distract their prey. There have even been documented cases of them attacking – gulp – birds.””
When you catch your second Giant Trevally, you can then sell it to Nook’s Cranny for 4500 Bells.
You can also hold onto it until C.J. arrives on your island, who will then buy it for 20% more than usual for a price of 5400 Bells. You can also give him three of them and he will give you a Giant Trevally model in return.
When Are Giant Trevally Available Until?
As with most of the fish added in May, the Giant Trevally will be available in New Horizons for a long, long time. You can catch one from the start of May until the end of October.
Just in case you don’t manage to catch one during that timeframe, there is always the option to utilise “time travel” to go to the right period. Unfortunately, it also has the same shadow size as the Sea Bass, so expect to see plenty of those as well.
