5 Biggest Games of December 2017

It’s nearly December, which means only one thing: some fat bearded guy is climbing down your chimney to steal your milk and cookies. In fact, given the way this year has been in the gaming industry, Santa Claus might stop delivering presents altogether. Enjoy your Christmas themed Loot Boxes, kids. EA send their regards.

As far as gaming releases are concerned, December is typically your wind-down period before kicking off again in the New Year. Still, there’s some big releases to be excited about for the final month of 2017. Let’s get into it, shall we?

Doom VFR

DOOM VFR

Release Date: December 1st
Platforms: PSVR, HTC Vive

Just when you thought you were done with the whole “ripping and tearing” thing, DOOM VFR is here to get your ass back to Mars for some more slaughter. Though our demo with the game proved to be a clunky and unnatural experience, it’s still good to see big name franchises like DOOM giving VR a shot. Though you don’t actually play as the Doomguy, this is probably the closest you’ll get to feeling like you are.

Hello Neighbor

Release Date: December 8th
Platforms: PC (Windows), Xbox One

You ever wonder what kind of weird, fucked up shit that your neighbor gets up whilst you’re unaware? Hello Neighbor proposes this question and tasks you with finding out. Just don’t let the Neighbor himself catch you, or you could be in for a world of trouble. Whilst various Alpha and Beta versions have been available on the PC for a while now, the game will be getting a full release on December 8th, so you don’t have long to wait to find out what that darned Neighbor is up to.

Fallout 4 VR

Fallout 4

Release Date: December 12th
Platform: HTC Vive

The other big VR game from Bethesda coming out in December, Fallout 4 VR is essentially Fallout 4 but with VR. At least you don’t have to use the weird teleporting controls to explore the nuclear wasteland here, as you can utilise the analog sticks to move, but the idea of heading around a corner only to come face-to-face with a Deathclaw is one that’ll turn my jeans brown in an instant.

PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds

PUBG

Release Date: December 12th
Platform: Xbox One

Millions of players on the PC have already been causing havoc on PUBG for months now, but December play host to the landmark moment that the Battle Royale phenomenon arrives on the Xbox One. Expect almost your entire Xbox friends list to be wall to wall PUBG come December 12th, then expect at least half of those people to complain that the game is broken because it’s still technically an Early Access game.

Okami HD

Release Date: December 12th
Platforms: PC, PS4, Xbox One

Ignore that PUBG bollocks, this is the biggest release of December. Though technically a re-release, Okami was one of the PS2’s many masterpieces, and deserves another chance to shine on current day consoles. Developed by the now defunct but absolutely brilliant Clover Studio, Okami puts you in the shoes, or paws, of the Sun Goddess Amaterasu, who assumes a wolf-like form to drive darkness out of old Japan. It was a marvellous game back in 2006, and if you’ve never played the game before, we highly suggest you try Okami HD next month. You can take the recommendation as our Christmas present to you.
