Sons of the Forest: Where to Find the Shotgun & Ammo

Sons of the Forest Shotgun

You have more weapons in your arsenal than ever before in Sons of the Forest, whether it’s the crowd controlling Stun Gun, the heavy duty Firefighter Axe, or the trusty little Pistol. None of them quite match up to the sheer stopping power of the Shotgun, though.

Before you hunt down the Shotgun, you’re going to need to get the Shovel, an extremely tricky, long-winded item that requires you to also have the Rope Gun and Rebreather in your inventory. It requires a lot of steps and explanation, so check out the tutorial below for everything you need. You’re going to want to stock up on explosives and meds.

With the Shovel in hand, now you’re able to unlock the Shotgun in Sons of the Forest.

The Shotgun is visibly obvious on the GPS as a pink exclamation mark (which you can also get for markers) near the south coast, not all that far from where the helicopter crashes.

Here’s where you can find the Shotgun on the GPS map:

Once you’ve arrived at the location, you will find a grave. Equip your Shovel, then hold down left click to eventually unearth a coffin. The Shotgun is lying on top of the corpse inside, snag it with E.

The Shotgun is an extremely powerful weapon in Sons of the Forest that can kill most of the cannibals in a single hit. You can even equip attachments like the Shotgun Rail, Flashlight Attachment, and Laser Sight to make it even better. It is a bit clunky to actually equip these attachments, as you can’t unequip them one by one and have to instead dismantle all of them. Bear in mind that you cannot equip the Laser Sight and Flashlight at the same time.

As for ammo, the Shotgun takes Slug and Buckshot Ammo, both of which spawn very reliably among the containers at the crash site where you first wash up on the island. They even respawn every single day, too. By the time we actually unlocked the Shotgun, we had 40 different shells to use with it.

Sons of the Forest is available on PC.
