Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty is like a lot of other Soulslike games on the market, in that it has a number of complex systems and mechanics that you’ll need to master if you wish to succeed in this dark fantasy take on the Three Kingdoms period of China. However, no Soulslike game has a mechanic as adorable as the Shitieshou, which offer a welcome respite in the chaos of the Yellow Turban Rebellion. As an added bonus, the Shitieshou even offer a practical purpose for players, which is nice.

Here’s everything you need to know about the Shitieshou in Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty.

What Are The Shitieshou?

Far from being a name that has a naughty word in it, the Shitieshou are cute little panda-like creatures that you can encounter throughout your journey in Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty. If Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty ends up getting some merch, plushies of these adorable critters should be at the top of the list. One Shitieshou can be found in most Battlefields after completing Two Chivalrous Heroes, though there are some sub Battlefields that are essentially just boss fights where you won’t find any Shitieshou.

How Do The Shitieshou Work?

The Shitieshou get their name from a term that literally means “iron chewer”, which should give you some indication into how these adorable chonks operate. Players can drop some metal (like the steel) in front of the Shitieshou, which is done by going into your inventory, picking one of the steel material items under the forging materials tab, and selecting “drop”.

Once you’ve dropped your item in front of the Shitieshou, take a step back and the little guy should grab your item and consume it. Satisfied with its bounty, the Shitieshou will then offer up an accessory for you to claim. While we’re not entirely sure, we’re assuming that the higher rank of metal you offer up, the better the accessory you’ll receive. After offering you an item, the Shitieshou will then take a nap, content with the hard work they’ve done. For the rest of that level, you won’t be able to give them more metal, but there’s always new pandas to find in other levels.

The Shitieshou Hermit

In the stage Fall of the Corrupted Eunuch, you’ll find a Hermit near the start of the mission who is locked in one of the prison cells. On the bottom floor of that room, in one of the cells underneath the Hermit, you’ll find the cell door key, which you’ll need for a lot of extra goodies in this part of the level. Return to that hermit near the start of the level, open the door and speak to him. He’ll tell you that he’ll return to the Hidden Village.

Once you’ve returned to the Hidden Village, head over to the area behind the Village Chief’s house, and you’ll find an area filled with all the Shitieshou you’ve befriended so far, accompanied by the Hermit you rescued from the cell. From now on, after befriending so many Shitieshou, the Hermit will grant you some extra rewards like new gear and items.

Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X & S.
