The Weekly Shōnen Jump magazine has had a giant influx of new manga recently, and Undead Unluck has dazzled fans the most since starting back in 2020. Yoshifumi Tozuka’s supernatural adventure series has quickly gained widespread popularity, and it didn’t take long for it to be picked up by TMS Entertainment for an anime adaptation.

The Undead Unluck anime was originally announced in August 2022, and over the past few months, we’ve received multiple trailers. Fuuko and Andy’s story is finally heading to the small screen, and we’ve also got a confirmed release date for the anime, so if you’d like to find out more, here’s all you need to know.

When Is the Undead Unluck Anime Coming Out?

The Undead Unluck anime is scheduled to release in October 2023. The exact release date, however, hasn’t been revealed to the public yet, but seeing as that October will kick off the Fall 2023 anime line-up, you can expect the anime to arrive in the first week or so.

The total number of episodes is a mystery too, but odds are that the first season will be a single cour show unlike Jujutsu Kaisen: Season 2 which is currently ongoing for 24 back-to-back episodes. The Summer 2023 anime will wrap up in a couple of months’ time, and though it’ll be a while before you can watch Undead Unluck, there’s no harm in checking out other spectacular undead anime like Zom 100.

What Is the Undead Unluck Anime About? (Spoiler Alert)

The story of Undead Unluck takes place in a world where some individuals, known as “Negators”, possess powers to negate the laws of nature. Not being able to die would classify a person as an Undead, whereas a person being sick all the time would be an Unhealthy. Fuuko is a teenager caught up in the same kind of situation with her Unluck powers. Everything around her either dies or withers away due to how unlucky she makes her surroundings, and that’s why she decides to commit suicide.

But before she can do that, another Negator who Fuuko later names Andy because of his Undead powers, convinces her to not do such a senseless thing, and instead help him die since he’s an Undead. One thing leads to another and Fuuko and Andy become friends, but they’re being chased by a deadly corporation called the Union which itself is made up of other Negators. Soon, a series of uncanny events start to transpire and the dynamic duo of Fuuko and Andy is caught up in all kinds of interesting, albeit violent scenarios, but will they be able to find a footing in this strange world?

Which Studio Is Making The Undead Unluck Anime?

Animation is always a make-or-break point in a manga adaptation, and most anime are virtually shunned if their visuals are terrible. Ironically, the Undead Unluck anime was lucky enough to land itself David Production, one of the top studios out there in terms of quality.

David Production’s previous works include Fire Force, and JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, both of which have received universal acclaim for their distinct and quirky art styles. Undead Unluck’s main trailer couldn’t have been any better either, it has striking animation with just the right amount of color and clarity, so if you’re worried about how the anime looks, see for yourself.

Where Will The Undead Unluck Anime Be Aired?

Right now there’s no word on where the Undead Unluck anime will air, but recent rumors do seem to suggest that Hulu might have gained the rights to stream the series exclusively this Fall. If that’s the case, then it’ll be tough luck for fans since Hulu isn’t widely appreciated because of its unavailability in most regions. It’d be better if Crunchyroll acquires the rights to stream Undead Unluck, but for now, we’ll have to wait and see what fate befalls the anime.
