Jojo's Bizarre Adventure

JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure is one of those anime that’s pretty hard to come by. It’s jam-packed with action sequences that are mellowed out by broken humor, and to cap that off, David Production’s cut no corners when it comes to the animation.

As the animeverse continues to get crowded with new entries, it’s easy to get lost while finding something similar to JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure. So to save us all some time, here’s a list of 10 anime like JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure worth taking a journey with.

Anime Like JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure

1. Vanitas no Karte

Vanitas no Karte
Vanitas no Karte

When it comes to style like JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, Vanitas no Karte’s got tons of that with its just as bizarro adventures, and elegant approach to tackling evil. JoJo’s blood-sucking antagonist is Dio Brando, and similarly, Vanitas no Karte’s full of vampires, so that easily makes it a must-watch when you’re looking for an anime like JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure.

Vanitas no Karte takes place in a world where vampires sneakily roam around among Humans, but sometimes, when their True Name gets corrupted, they spiral out of control and kill everyone in sight. Luckily, the vampire of the Blue Moon, Vanitas, who’s also a doctor of sorts, uses his Book of Vanitas to restore the vampires’ True Names. Risking life and limb to keep the peace, could there be more to the eccentric Vanitas than just good intentions?

2. Noragami

Yato is an eccentric god that grants any wish for a measly 5 yen. When the wandering god crosses paths with Hyori, a series of misadventures begins that allows Yato to cope with his rather tragic past. Studio Bones’ animation quality for Noragami is stunning, and at times, very similar to JoJo’s.

That, along with Noragami’s jolly dialogue, certainly leads you to believe it may have more in common with JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure than you first believed.

3. Golden Kamuy

Golden Kamuy

Animated by Geno Studio, Golden Kamuy resembles JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure in many ways besides its eccentric animation. Golden Kamuy’s protagonist Saichi Sugimoto has much in common with the Jojo lineage, especially his brawn, cunning battle IQ, and delightful jests.

Veteran Saichi Sugimoto’s best friend died in the Russo-Japanese War, which left him to look after his friend’s widow. But even after performing great feats, Sugimoto had barely any rewards to show for it. After chancing upon a folktale about a map made up of human tattoos leading to unimaginable reserves of gold, he sets out towards Abashiri Prison, where some of the tattoo bearers are rumored to be held captive. He won’t be alone though, as Asirpa, an Ainu girl, travels with him to pursue a vendetta of her own.

Golden Kamuy’s brimming with heaps of action accompanied by no shortage of flashy visuals just like in JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, making it a great binge-watch for fans of JoJo.

4. Kekkai Sensen

Imagine a world where monsters and aliens all live in harmony. Well, for the most part. Leonardo Watch moves to Hellsalem’s Lot after an incident causes him to manifest ‘the All Seeing Eyes of the Gods’. With his newfound powers, Leo joins a crime-fighting organization called Libra, and so a cascade of unbelievably amazing events start occuring.

Endless amounts of flashy gore, unpredictable outcomes and boisterous characters definitely make Kekkai Sensen resonate with people searching for anime like JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure.

5. The Seven Deadly Sins

Princess Elizabeth of the Liones Kingdom ventures across the lands in search of The Seven Deadly Sins, a band of knights that protected the Kingdom up until 10 years ago when they were framed for conspiring against the crown. After finally finding Captain Meliodas, the duo looks for the remaining members, but there are far more sinister forces at play that won’t let that happen.

The story might sound light-hearted, but like JoJo the anime can be very serious at times. The cast of the anime is full of vibrant characters who aren’t afraid to throw hands at each other, sound familiar? With such a well-outlined story and tons of plot twists thrown into the mix, this is an easy recommendation for fans of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure.

6. Kengan Ashura

Kengan Ashura
Kengan Ashura

Like JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, Yabako Sandrovich’s Kengan Ashura doesn’t know when to pull its punches as both anime have a knack for aiming relentless onslaughts at their characters. Kengan Ashura is set in a fictitious Japan where the traditional fighting Kengan Annihilation Tournament is held, a contest in which the country’s elite businesses compete for dominance.

Fate plays its hand, and Tokita Ohma is sent as the representative brawler for the Nogi Group. With the most bloodthirsty of challengers gathered from around the world, the Kengan Annihilation Tournament becomes an ultimate fighting spectacle.

Where Jojo takes a fantasy approach with its Hamon and Stand powers, Kengan Ashura bamboozles watchers with its endless montages of techniques, which are occasionally accompanied by supernatural elements. Kengan Ashura definitely checks all the boxes for anime similar to Jojo, and with the second season on its way, this seems to be the best time to jump into the franchise.

7. One Punch Man

Saitama’s a hero who can take out any evil-doer in a single punch. Cool right? Well not entirely. Being this powerful is actually boring for Saitama as he doesn’t feel the adrenaline, or Hamon as JoJo fans would call it, in his veins when fighting, but when a Cyborg named Genos asks Saitama to become his mentor, Saitama starts getting excited once again.

JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure relies heavily on its animation and comedic dialogue, both something One Punch Man essentially excels at. With tons of giggles and stunningly choreographed battles, One Punch Man‘s the go-to anime if you’re all out of JoJo episodes.

8. Promare

Promare

Spontaneous Human Combustions caused by The Great World Blaze culled Earth’s population to half, but those who survived gained pyrokinetic powers. Not everyone uses their gifts to do good, and so Galo and other firefighters protect what’s left of the world from such villains.

Promare’s pretty much a JoJo collaboration with Fire Force, and like Jotaro and Jonathan, Galo’s got masculinity emitting non-stop. As for the animation, JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure like neon bright visuals, and strangely vibrant colors just make you want to binge Promare in one sitting.

9. Jujutsu Kaisen

Jujutsu Kaisen
Jujutsu Kaisen

Like every other list, Jujutsu Kaisen and its overwhelming world of Curses always manage to fit themselves as a recommendation. Its universally pleasing story, overpowered characters, and flabbergasting visuals leave you craving for more.

JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure depicts the struggles of the JoJos against the evil Vampire Dio Brando, and in some ways, Jujutsu Kaisen’s plot of the endless war between Jujutsu Sorcerers and Curses makes it feel like JJK has kindred ties with JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure.

10. Baki the Grappler

Knowing nothing other than martial arts, Baki Hanma lives every day training his body to the limit so that he may one day surpass the Strongest Creature on Earth, his father Yujiro Hanma. As Baki learns he’s nowhere near the level of his father, he travels across the world participating in life-or-death competitions in hopes of becoming the strongest fighter.

Compared to JoJo, Baki the Grappler takes an in-depth technical approach to fighting, but it’s not completely void of fantasy as there are plenty of jaw-dropping superhuman feats in each episode. Baki’s plotline has lots of menacing yet visually eye-catching clashes that compel you to add it to your bookmarks when looking for anime like JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure.
