Yabako Sandrovich’s Kengan Ashura began publication back in 2012, but it wasn’t till 2019 that an anime adaptation was released. The anime boasted an enticing combination of both over-the-top martial arts and engaging narrative, which led to it becoming an instant hit in the fighting genre. It’s been over three years since the anime finished airing, ending just when the Annihilation Tournament entered its second round, and not getting to see a sequel yet has been infuriating for fans. Luckily, after an arduous wait, Kengan Ashura: Season 3 has been officially announced.
Earlier in March 2022, the official Netflix anime Twitter account confirmed that the highly anticipated Kengan Ashura: Season 3 is in the works. Though no information has been revealed regarding the project’s animation studio, we suspect Larx Entertainment will reprise its position. The studio just wrapped up things with Tekken: Bloodline, and so chances are that their next release will be Kengan Ashura: Season 3.
When Is Kengan Ashura: Season 3 Coming Out?
UPDATE JULY 2023: Netflix has revealed that Kengan Ashura: Season 3 will release on 21 September 2023.
ORIGINAL STORY: Netflix has confirmed that Kengan Ashura will drop sometime in 2023. An exact release date has not yet been confirmed.
The first season of Kengan Ashura comprised 24 episodes that were released as two cours (parts), in July and October 2019 respectively, which may mean that Season 3 will actually be known as Part 3, but whether the animation style will be different is up for debate.
The anime was praised for its uniquely choreographed fights and appealing sound design, while the animation was subjected to a lot of criticism. The anime was CGI based, and some saw it as a butchering of the amazing manga panels drawn by Daromeon, the manga illustrator, but the story was so terrific that it would’ve been a shame not to continue watching it.
What Is Kengan Ashura: Season 3 About? (Spoiler Alert)
Season 1 of the anime left us off at the second round of the Kengan Annihilation Tournament, where Ohma fought Raian of the Kure clan. At first, Ohma resorted to using the Advance to counteract Raian’s Removal technique, but after gaining a sense of purpose through hallucinations of his late mentor Niko, Ohma beat Raian by utilizing his new form of the Niko Style.
Kengan Ashura: Season 3 will pick right up from the third match-up of the second round, where Wakatsuki will be facing off against Julius. A fight that will showcase the tournament’s two most physically gifted competitors. But that’ll just be the beginning of the second season as you’ll be witnessing twelve more brutal matches that will ultimately determine the winner of the Kengan Annihilation Tournament.
Currently, we don’t know in what style or when Kengan Ashura: Season 3 will arrive, but we can ascertain that when it does, it’ll be one of the biggest anime releases of the year.
