Pokémon Sword and Shield: How To Evolve Eevee

While Game Freak may have had to cut a few classic Pokémon for Pokémon Sword and Shield, it’s no surprise that they weren’t going to leave Eevee, one of the most beloved Pokémon across the franchise, behind for the first mainline RPG on Switch. But how do you evolve Eevee in Pokémon Sword and Shield? Is it as big a change as the rest of the game?

You’ll be happy to know that it’s, more or less, the same process to evolve Eevee in Sword and Shield as it has been in every other Pokémon game to date. First things first, though: where can you find Eeevee?

Eevee is out on Route 4, which you should make your way towards very early into the game’s story. You can travel back here later in the blink of an eye using Flying Taxis.

Eevee can be found hanging out in the fields in the tall grass; remember to click the left stick in to whistle and grab their attention. This is also the same spot where you can find Milcery.

They aren’t difficult at all to catch, just throw a Great Ball or above at them and they should be in your party in no time at all.

Now that you have Eevee, you need to figure out how to evolve them. As has always been the case, it comes down to Evolution Stones.

Pokémon Sword and Shield Eevee Stone Evolutions

We have a long guide on where to find various Evolution Stones in Pokémon Sword and Shield, but the short version is that you can either travel to an island in the northeast of the Wild Area to collect all of the stones below or pay 500 watts to the digging duo and hope they dig up what you need.

Pokémon Sword and Shield Eevee Friendship Evolutions

All of the following evolutions of Eevee are based on how friendly you are with your Eevee. You can increase your friendliness with Eevee over time by picking them in your party often, or by setting up a Pokémon Camp to cook nourishing curries and play with toys with them. There’s no meter to tell you how much your Pokémon likes you, but a young boy in a house next to Hammerlocke’s Pokémon Center will be able to tell you. In that same house, you can get a Soothe Bell and use it as a held item to make your Eevee even friendlier with you.

Espeon
You can evolve Eevee into Espeon in Pokémon Sword and Shield by making sure they are very friendly with you and by levelling them up in the daytime. Change your Switch’s time settings to make it day in-game if you are playing at night. Use a Rare Candy if you want them to level up even quicker than farming.

Umbreon
You can evolve Eevee into Umbreon in Pokémon Sword and Shield by making sure they are very friendly with you and by levelling them up in the nighttime. Change your Switch’s time settings to make it night in-game if you are playing in the day. Use a Rare Candy if you want them to level up even quicker than farming.

Sylveon
You can evolve Eevee into Sylveon in Pokémon Sword and Shield by making sure they are very friendly with you and that they also know a Fairy-type move. Eevee will learn Baby-Doll Eyes very early on, but you can always go to a Name Rater to remember old moves. Use a Rare Candy if you want them to level up even quicker than farming.

Don’t forget that you can also give Eevee an Everstone if you never want it to evolve in sword and Shield.
