Pokémon Sword and Shield is a very big game that doesn’t always explain itself that well — they say there are still day one buyers struggling with the Y-Comm. One of the things you have to find out for yourself is how you can forget and remember moves from a Pokémon’s arsenal at will.

You can already forget moves by replacing them with new ones once Pokémon level up, but what if you accidentally select the wrong option, is the move lost to the ether forever? No, just head on over to a Pokémon Center.

Pokémon Centers are found across all towns in Sword and Shield and have been a staple of the franchise forever. You can heal your Pokémon at them and stock up on some items at the Poké Mart. It’s also where you can help your Pokémon to forget and remember moves.

You need to find the Name Rater, who is always on the left in the Pokémon Center with his own Pokémon besides him. This guy will also help you to change the names of your Pokémon.

Simply choose the option from the interface and you can scroll through all of the moves your Pokémon has learned and then swap them for one you currently have, or just forget them if you’re hardcore.

This is really useful for when you have an evolved Pokémon that you need to respec for a specific battle. If you have Pikachu, for instance, and are going against fast Pokémon, you could go back and relearn Agility so that he gets a speed boost.

It’s definitely worth looking into remembering older moves for all the competitive Pokémon players out there. You can’t win them all with sheer power.

Pokémon Sword and Shield are out now on Nintendo Switch.
