Out now on Nintendo Switch, Pokémon Sword and Shield allows players to customise their Trainers from a variety of presets. Your clothes and haircut get picked for you when you first begin, but there is an option to change the latter after a little bit of time with the game.
Roughly 5 hours into Pokémon Sword and Shield (unless you grind and grind through the starting areas), you will arrive at Motostoke, an industrial-looking town that you can get to by travelling north through the first Wild Area.
On the main street of Motostoke, you will be able to find a Hair Salon.
Walk through the door and then up to the counter and talk to the girl behind it, who will ask you if you want to get a haircut. A haircut in Pokémon Sword and Shield costs 3000 Pokédollars, which isn’t exactly pocket money. You can also change your makeup, which includes things like eyebrow thickness for male characters.
There aren’t that many options while in the salon chair, but you can change the colour of your hair from quite a decent variety.
After your haircut, the hairdresser will ask you if you want to leave your hat off. Unless we are missing something, this is the only way of taking your hat off in Pokémon Sword and Shield apart from going to the hats section in a dressing room and pressing X to remove the hat. You can put it back on later by visiting a dressing room.
Elsewhere in Pokémon Sword and Shield, here’s how you change the names of your Pokémon and how you can claim a free Meowth.
