Biomutant is Experiment 101’s ambitious post-apocalyptic open-world RPG that sees players control a nameless wanderer who’s fated to decide the destiny of the mutated creatures that have evolved in the wake of human environmental disaster. It’s all very weighty stuff for a game that features cute raccoon looking creatures beating the snot out of each other in a vibrant, ruined world. But how long is Biomutant?

As with all open world RPGs, there’s a wealth of content to explore and discover beyond the main quest, meaning it might be hard to gauge how long it’ll take to see the credits roll. If you’re someone who doesn’t have so much time on your hands and are wondering if Biomutant is worth the commitment, here’s how long it’ll take to complete Biomutant.

The vast majority of Biomutant is optional, side quest content, meaning if you want to finish Biomutant, there’s a small checklist of tasks you’ll need to complete, which you can find out more about with our guide right here.

For those who wish to complete the story, you’re looking at around 10-15 hours worth of content, moving more towards the 15 hour mark if you spend some time picking up some collectibles, loot and completing the odd side quest here and there. For the most part though, this estimate is mostly if you speed through the main quest, as there’s a lot of content to unpack in Biomutant.

Biomutant is Skyrim-like in its structure, meaning if you just complete the main quest, there’s a large swathe of the world and its secrets that’ll remain untouched. If you truly want to experience everything Biomutant has to offer in a single playthrough, you’re looking at dozens of hours. The game’s director Stefan Ljungqvist has gone on record to say that the game can last over 65 hours. That’s if you can handle Biomutant for that long anyway.

On top of that, there’s a New Game+ mode that allows players to complete the game while following an alternate Aura path. NG+ skips some of the earlier moments of the game and allows you to quickly rush through to get the second ending, meaning you could easily add another 10 hours on to the playtime if you want to see “everything”.
