Experiment 101’s Biomutant is a curious look into how a super evolved cute furball can survive in a post-apocalyptic world filled with huge monsters and plenty of environmental hazards. One of the best ways Biomutant sells that post-apocalypse feel is through crafting. Here’s everything you need to know about Biomutant’s crafting system.

In order to create weapons, you’ll need a few items. Players are able to cobble together different items which allow them to forge powerful weapons. Armour cannot be crafted, but can be upgraded through various means in a similar way to weapons, which we’ll get into in a bit.

For melee weapons, players need to find a handle and a “main part”, which is the part that smacks dudes. There’s multiple different classes of “main parts”, allowing you to use the weapon as a one or two-handed blunt or bladed weapon, or as a “crush weapon”, which is just overwhelming power above all else.

Ranged weapons have a similar crafting process, as you need to compile a base type followed by a muzzle and a grip. Depending on the base type you obtain, you could create shotguns, pistols, rifles and more, but the grip and muzzle allow you to improve and modify the weapon even further.

Once you have your weapons and armour, it’s time to upgrade them, which is done in either one of two ways.

The quickest and easiest is through add-ons. Throughout the world, you’ll find plenty of add-ons that can be placed onto your melee and ranged weapons that can increase your damage, accuracy and more. Add-ons are interchangeable, and depending on your base type, main part or armour piece, you can have up to four slots for add-ons.

Alternatively, you can find weapon and armour upgrade benches at various points throughout the map, typically signified by a hot air balloon found near outposts or certain towns and villages. Here, you can use the benches to upgrade the base stats of your weapons by investing the materials you find scattered across the world. Upgrading in this fashion is expensive, but can lead to some decent gains, so if you’ve got the materials spare, it’s a good option to consider.
