Not sure if it's worth the effort, in truth.

Fortnite: Season 5 has proven to be a pretty massive season of Fortnite, especially for those who want new seasons of the game to introduce fresh mechanics and actual storyline. In terms of new weapons, Season 5 isn’t slacking either with the Boom Sniper Rifle, among many others.

The Boom Sniper Rifle is of the Exotic rarity in Fortnite: Season 5, which means that it can only be found from a vendor. The Exotic rarity is brand new for Fortnite: Season 5 and seems to mash two different weapon types together. In the case of the Boom Sniper Rifle, it’s a normal sniper mixed with an explosive in the form of the Clingers.

Here’s everything you need to know about the Boom Sniper Rifle in Fortnite and how best you can use it.

If you take the damage of the Boom Sniper Rifle on face value, you’re going to very underwhelmed as it does 10 damage for initial contact and then 60 when the Clinger projectile actually explodes. That’s just 70 damage.

However, when you consider that you can shoot the Boom Sniper Rifle five times without having to reload, then you can see the value of the Exotic weapon. Max potential damage is 350 for landing all five shots, but don’t forget that you can also do splash damage.

The Boom Sniper Rifle is also very convenient against builds, though you may need a couple of shots to bring a structure down. It’s very effective at breaking down a massive buildfight or getting campers to change position, so it’s actually a much, much better gun than people give it credit for.

The Boom Sniper Rifle can only be found by venturing to a small hut on an island to the west of Craggy Cliffs, check the blue marker above for its exact location.

Once there, you will then meet the Splode NPC, who will also give you quests. One of the options he gives you is to buy the Boom Sniper Rifle for an eye-watering total of 1225 Gold Bars, which is a whole lot.

To farm more Gold Bars in Fortnite: Season 5, we strongly recommend that you just do every quest that you can find by talking to the different vendors around the map, eliminating players and guards, and searching every chest you can find. If you’re starting off with very few Bars, it might take you up to five hours to grind the necessary Gold Bars. Splode himself will give you some quests to complete for 30 or so Gold Bars, as well as Bounties on other players for 70 Bars.

Once you have the required amount of Bars, return to Splode and hand them over to unlock the Boom Sniper Rifle.

Disappointingly, you cannot use the Boom Sniper Rifle beyond the match that you bought it in. Once the match is over, you have to start the whole process of unlocking the weapon over again, which is as frustrating as it sounds. If you want less long-winded new weapons to play with, check out the Amban Sniper Rifle and Dragon’s Breath Shotgun.

Fortnite is free-to-play on PC via the Epic Games Store, PS5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X | S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and Android.
