Erased: Season 2 – Everything You Should Know

Maybe the only way to enjoy Erased once again is to go back in time yourself.

Whether Erased: Season 2 will ever happen remains one of the biggest mysteries so far in the anime industry. Fans fell in love with the scientific thriller story about Satoru Fujinuma stopping a series of murders when he’s sent back in time at first sight, and since the anime’s somewhat wholesome ending, not having a sequel would seem like a wasted opportunity.

On the other hand, there aren’t many places the story could go from here as there aren’t any loose ends to tie. Unfortunately, that might be responsible for why we haven’t had any announcements for an Erased: Season 2. Nevertheless, let’s take a look at everything we know so far about the seriously underrated show’s future.

When Is Erased: Season 2 Coming Out?

Erased: Season 2 hasn’t been confirmed to be in the works, so there’s no release date for the anime yet. Because the main plotline of the manga was completely adapted in the first season, it’s unlikely that the anime will ever return, but there’s no harm in hoping.

For Erased to continue, the studio will have to create an original story since there isn’t any manga continuation as of this moment. A few other possibilities include getting a remake of the anime or a feature film, although, that happening soon still lies on the less likely end of the spectrum.

What Is Erased: Season 2 About? (Spoiler Alert)

After the manga finished, the author released two spin-off volumes that explored the story a bit further. Erased: Another Record was an expansion that unraveled the theory of why Satoru’s teacher, Gaku, committed the murders, and what was going through his head.

The other spin-off Erased: Re was a short note of the events that took place in the lives of Satoru’s friends when he was in his coma that would later span 15 years. The spin-off doesn’t do much except make the ending even happier, so it caters to more of a special episode vibe. Alternatively, Erased: Season 2 could be an all-original story that shows a new protagonist or even a twist in Satoru’s new life. Whatever may be the case, it’s going to be a long wait.

Which Studio Is Making Erased: Season 2?

Aside from the unique setting of the anime, the visuals were what captivated fans. That wasn’t surprising considering that the anime’s studio, A-1 Pictures, is the same one that brought us other visual wonders like The Seven Deadly Sins, Blue Exorcist, and Darling in the Franxx.

If there ever is an Erased: Season 2, A-1 Pictures should be responsible for the animation once again unless there’s official news stating the opposite. For what it’s worth, nobody would mind having the stunning art style return, and hopefully, that turns out to be true.

Where Will Erased: Season 2 Be Aired?

You’ll likely be able to catch Erased: Season 2 streaming on Crunchyroll, Funimation, and possibly even Netflix if it ever gets made. Hulu too has a fairly large catalog of anime, so you could see it arrive there as well, but that’s something only time will tell.

So far it seems as if Erased was a one-time deal, and with the story already being full-circle, it’s easy to see why neither the mangaka nor the studio have talked about taking it further. Still, the anime’s world is pretty intriguing, and there’s certainly another great story somewhere in there, but because the chances are low, it’s better to keep the series in the back of your mind until something noteworthy pops up.
