Darling In The Franxx: Season 2 – Everything You Should Know

Would you like a season 2, darling?

Where Neon Genesis Evangelion captivated fans with its psychological spin on the mecha genre, Darling in the Franxx went the romance route. It ended up being a commercial success and fans can’t ever seem to forget about it. Well, the blame’s mostly on the upsetting ending of the anime for that one, but surely, that can’t be where it all ends.

Sadly, it hasn’t been confirmed that Darling in the Franxx: Season 2 is in production. Over five years have passed since the anime last aired, and while there has been a manga adaptation that followed, no news for a second season has surfaced. Regardless, a little bit of wishful thinking or wild predictions won’t hurt.

When Is Darling In The Franxx: Season 2 Coming Out?

As Darling in the Franxx: Season 2 isn’t in the works, there’s no word on its release date. There haven’t been any teases or hints at an imminent reveal either, so by the looks of it, an announcement for the release date could happen at any point in the future.

The story of Darling in the Franxx as it stands is completed on many levels. It was a bittersweet ending but most of what the studios wanted to show had been animated, and that’s part of the reason why we haven’t heard about the future of the franchise. Nonetheless, anime announcements are unpredictable so there’s hope yet.

What Is Darling In The Franxx: Season 2 About? (Spoiler Alert)

The Darling in the Franxx anime was actually a totally original project created by the team “Code:000“. As you can deduce, there’s no source material per se, so we can’t be sure of what’s next. Although, there is a manga adaptation of the franchise that explores a totally different ending from the anime.

For now, it’s all speculation since there isn’t a firm direction on what’s next. A few interesting possibilities are that we might see a remake in the future or maybe the alternate-ending manga in which Hiro and Zero Two never die. Last but not the least, the anime’s closing moments showed both Hiro and Zero Two getting reincarnated, so we may even see a direct sequel.

Which Studio Is Making Darling In The Franxx: Season 2?

The original anime project was animated by three studios at that time; A-1 Pictures (Blue Exorcist), Trigger (Cyberpunk: Edgerunners), and CloverWorks (The Promised Neverland). Darling in the Franxx: Season 2 should also be animated by them again if it ever happens, although, it does sound too good to be true.

The first season was reportedly the second most watched anime from the winter 2018 line-up, and if you’ve watched a few episodes yourself, it isn’t hard to deduce why. The outstandingly detailed artwork accompanied the melodramatic narrative in a swell way, so if even any one of the studios reprises the animation, it’ll be more than enough.

Where Will Darling In The Franxx: Season 2 Be Aired?

Darling in the Franxx: Season 2 is likely to stream on Crunchyroll exclusively upon release. The mecha anime originally aired on both Funimation and Crunchyroll, but because Funimation is now a subsidiary of Crunchyroll, hence the exclusivity.

Unfortunately, Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hulu, and other services don’t have the first season available to stream, and the ones that do, only have the initial 12 episodes only, so don’t expect to see the second season on any of these as the chances are pretty low. Another alternative would be to buy the Blu-ray from Amazon once the potential second season finishes airing, but that’s a big if.
