The Old Man is a drama thriller about Dan Chase, an ex-CIA operative trying to escape his past. The show has been critically acclaimed and nominated for multiple awards; it even ended up winning some.

Dan’s an expert at disappearing, but it’s been over a year since the Season 1 finale. Is The Old Man: Season 2 coming soon? Here’s what you should know about The Old Man’s second season, which should hopefully arrive before we all retire.

When Is The Old Man: Season 2 Being Released?

While it has been renewed, The Old Man: Season 2 doesn’t have a release date yet. The Writers Guild Of America (WGA) strike has stopped most American show and film productions. Until the strike ends, it’s impossible to tell how long fans will have to wait for the rest of Dan Chase’s tale.

According to Deadline, the writers had been able to complete the script of the first five episodes before the strike. Four episodes from Season 2 are now also done filming. The show still has quite a long way to go though, even after the strike ends. They’d have to finish writing the script, and only then can they start filming new episodes.

Will The Cast Return For The Old Man: Season 2?

No cast changes have been announced, so the cast should mostly remain unchanged for The Old Man: Season 2. Based on the Season 1 finale and statements from producers, the actors guaranteed to reprise their roles are Jeff Bridges as Dan Chase, John Lithgow as Harold Harper, and Amy Brenneman as Zoe McDonald.

Here are the other cast members who are expected to reprise their roles:

  • Alia Shawkat as Angela Adams / Emily Chase
  • Gbenga Akinnagbe as Julian Carson
  • Joel Grey as Morgan Bote
  • Navid Negahban as Faraz Hamzad

Of course, not all of the cast members will be back. Some of them did not make it through Season 1. Namely, E.J. Bonilla as Raymond Waters and Echo Kellum as Mike, whose characters died in the Season 1 finale.

You’re probably not just concerned for the human cast though. What about Dave and Carol, Dan Chase’s loyal Rottweilers? An interview with executive producers Jonathan Steinberg and Dan Shotz revealed that the dogs will indeed be back. The Old Man: Season 2 is now a 10/10.

What Could The Old Man: Season 2 Be About?

The Season 1 finale dropped a jaw-dropping cliffhanger. It turns out that Angela/Emily, Dan’s daughter, was actually Hamzad’s daughter all along. A fact that not even Emily herself knows.

Regardless of the life-changing revelations, it doesn’t change Dan and Harper’s goal. They’re still aiming to kill Hamzad and save Emily. However, when Emily eventually finds out who her real father is, will her loyalties stay the same?

Another loose end from the first season is Zoe. Dan left Zoe behind before heading out with Harper. However, in the interview linked above, Shotz revealed that Zoe will also be back. How she’ll be back or what role she will play is still largely up for debate. But it should be safe to say that Dan has another ally out there to rely on.

And then there’s Carson, the hit-man who now has two stains on his record. You can almost be sure he’ll be back with a vengeance in The Old Man: Season 2.
