In 2017, a supernatural slice-of-life anime was released that breathed fresh air into the rather stale genre. The Ancient Magus’ Bride followed the story of how Chise Hatori, a girl shunned by society, auctioned herself to Elias, a mage, in hopes of finding a new home. The anime became an instant hit due to its plot, but even so, there was no word on its return— until now.

It’s finally official: Elias and Chise are set to return in The Ancient Magus’ Bride: Season 2. During a live stream in early September 2022, Twin Engine, the production company, confirmed that the anime series is in the works and that it’ll be coming sooner than expected. A few juicy details about the renewal are out, so keep reading if you’re interested in finding out everything about The Ancient Magus’ Bride: Season 2, including when you can watch it and where.

When Is The Ancient Magus’ Bride: Season 2 Coming Out?

The Ancient Magus’ Bride: Season 2 will be released on April 6, 2023. Along with the announcement, a teaser visual for the new season was also revealed. The teaser featured many recurring characters as well as glimpses of a few new faces.

This release date of the sequel adds it to the Spring Season anime roster which already includes other critical series’ returns. Demon Slayer: Season 3, Attack on Titan Final Season Part 3, Dr. Stone: Season 3, and perhaps we may even see the highly anticipated Solo Leveling: Season 1 if we’re lucky.

What Is The Ancient Magus’ Bride: Season 2 About? (Spoiler Alert)

The anime’s first season ended with chapter 44 of the manga. Accordingly, The Ancient Magus’ Bride: Season 2 will directly pick up from hereafter. In chapter 45, Chise and Elias are invited to the College of Magic, and while at first hesitant, they decide to enroll there.

The upcoming story arcs will mostly concern the deepening of Chise and Elias’ relationship, while there will also be much more world-building as new characters are added into the mix. The College of Magic and the happenings inside it are going to be a major theme as well.

Which Studio Is Making The Ancient Magus’ Bride: Season 2?

Unlike the first season, The Ancient Magus’ Bride: Season 2 will not be made by Studio Wit. Instead, the recently founded Studio Kafka will be bringing the manga panels to life this time.

It may be worrisome that Wit isn’t going to animate the series again, but actually, most of Studio Kafka’s staff is from Studio Wit. That fact can easily be spotted from the stunning teaser that was released, so we’re certainly in good hands.

Where Will The Ancient Magus’ Bride: Season 2 Be Aired?

The Ancient Magus’ Bride: Season 2 will be streaming on Crunchyroll this April. It’ll also be simultaneously broadcast in Japan on local TV stations AT-X, Tokyo MX, MBS, and many more.

A lot of time has passed since the first season, but as April isn’t that far out, waiting a little while longer shouldn’t be a hassle. Plus, Studio Kafka reportedly helped create Vinland Saga: Season 2, so judging from their quality, it’s best if we don’t rush them.
