Pimpin' ain't easy, but it can be easier.

Being able to change your difficulty settings while playing a video game is what makes the medium so compelling. Players can challenge themselves as much or as little as they want to, and still have an experience that’s incredibly satisfying to them. With regards to customisable difficulty, Saints Row is up there with some of the best.

When you first start the game, you’ll be given the chance to select from one of five pre-set difficult settings before heading into the main game proper, giving you some control of your own challenge. However, if you want to change your settings halfway through, you can head to Challenge Options in the Gameplay section of the Options Menu at any time and change the settings at will.

The game comes with five difficulty settings, each of which change the level of difficulty you’ll encounter in various ways. From easiest to hardest, the difficulty settings are as follows: Tourist, Hustler, Entrepreneur (the default difficulty setting), Sensei and finally Boss. For the most part, Entrepreneur isn’t too tough, aside from one or two fights boss fights, so sticking it on the default setting should be fine for most players, but if you want more control, Saints Row offers that in spades.

Players can actually tinker with seven different difficulty sliders on a scale of 0-10 by going into the options menu and selecting Challenge Options in the Gameplay section. Those sliders are:

– Danger Level (how much damage you take from all sources)
– Enemy Durability (how many bullets it takes to drop enemies)
– Tough Enemy Frequency (more tough enemies will spawn at higher settings)
– Vehicle Combat Difficulty (your vehicles will have less health at higher settings)
– Notoriety Difficulty (more enemies will appear during notoriety, and it’ll be harder to interrupt AI calling in back-up)
– Ammo Scarcity (less ammo pick-ups on higher settings)
– Timed Objective Difficulty (higher settings means less time to complete certain tasks)

There are also aim assist settings to be found within the Challenge Options, as players can select what kind of lock-on system they want (Full Lock, Short Lock, Snap Only or just off completely), whether or not the game will auto lock on to new targets, and how wide the lock-on attraction is.

Saints Row is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X & S.
