Weirdness in 2019, post-apocalypse in 2020.

Death Stranding has jumped back into news feeds today thanks to a mysterious teaser for the game that was looping over at the PlayStation Twitch channel. There have also been reports that the upcoming game would release much earlier than many fans expected. That news seems to have been confirmed with a now deleted post from the PlayStation Taiwan Facebook page suggesting a launch date of November 8th, 2019.

This release date has now been confirmed via the same PlayStation Twitch stream, which culminated in a new trailer for the game. While the game is still mysterious as anything, it did confirm we’d be seeing Death Stranding on November 8th, 2019, with pre-orders available now.

While Death Stranding is coming sooner than anticipated, the same cannot be said for The Last of Us II. Kotaku news editor Jason Schreier has revealed via Twitter that the title has been hit with delays and is now unlikely to make its planned fall release this year. Instead, Schreier proposes an early 2020 launch date.

‏Officially titled The Last of Us Part II, the game has been in development since 2014 with Naughty Dog announcing the project in 2016. It will take place several years after the events of the first instalment, putting players in control of a now older Ellie. The reason for the delay is unclear but Sony will likely make some sort of an announcement during E3 in June.

Death Stranding is the work of Kojima Productions and will mark the first game developed by Hideo Kojima since he left Konami in 2016. Revealed the same year as The Last of Us Part II, it will be exclusive to the PlayStation 4 whenever it does hit store shelves.
