Slightly Mad Studios and Bandai Namco’s next instalment of their racing simulation series, Project Cars 3, is launching today on PC, PS4 and Xbox One, kind of. Players who have pre-ordered the Deluxe Edition of the game will be enjoying 3-day early access to the game ahead of its proper launch on August 28th. Here’s the gameplay trailer.

Though Project Cars has typically focused on realism in the past, the current iteration allows for more player experience customisation, catering to more casual racing game fans. Whether you want an experience that’s almost as good as actually racing on the track yourself, or just feel like throwing on a host of assists and having a bit of fun, Project Cars 3 should be enjoyable to everyone.

We previewed Project Cars 3 ahead of release, and found much to enjoy with the game’s overall versatility and wealth of options on offer, despite just being a demo. Here’s our thoughts below, along with a gameplay video with a tonne of production value.

While Project Cars 3 is definitely enjoyable, is it going to blow your mind if you’re a long-time racing fan? I don’t think so. It feels like a refinement of the franchise’s more hardcore edges that wants to reach a wider audience, but it’s certainly not some grand reinvention of the racing genre. Those who loved the more outright sim nature of 2 will probably be dismayed by the removal of tyre wear and pit stops, but more arcade-y fans, like myself, will appreciate the wider range of options for customised racing.
