Breeding has always been an important part of any mainline Pokémon game. This time around, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet has done away with the traditional Daycare Center method of breeding. Instead, whilst traversing the Paldea region, trainers will need to undergo different steps in order to breed to perfect-IV Pokémon.

You can now breed Pokémon wherever you set up a picnic. As long as there is at least one male and one female Pokémon in the same Egg Group, there is a chance that they can breed and an egg will be added to your boxes.

Sandwiches and food have many purposes in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, including improved catch rates and stat boosts, but they also increase the breeding rate of Pokémon. There are many food and sandwich shops across Paldea and all of them sell food that will give Egg Power. For example, all Peanut Butter Sandwiches and Fruit Sandwiches.

To breed Pokémon, set up a Picnic anywhere in the wild. If you’ve got specific Pokémon that you want to breed, make sure they’re the only two in the party. You can wait, play with the Pokémon, bathe them, change decorations and more, as long as you remember to return to the basket on the table occasionally. When two Pokémon have created an egg, you will only be told upon checking the basket, so don’t forget.

When an egg is created, it is sent to Pokémon boxes, so take them out to hatch them. The hatching process is the same as previous Pokémon games in that it is based on the distance walked. In Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, travelling on your Koraidon or Miraidon also contributes to egg hatching progress.

When the egg is ready to hatch, travelling will stop and an animation will reveal which Pokémon has hatched from the egg.
