Everybody loves games, but not everybody loves the price tags. 2023 has been the year when games have started to up their prices. Some companies have been trying to change the $60 game norm to $70. However, this has also been a year when a lot of big games haven’t been selling that well, resulting in publishers reducing prices through sales. All the more reason to look forward to the next Steam sale.
Whether it’s on your PC, Steam Deck, or a VR headset, it’s always a good feeling to get a game at a bargain. So, without further ado, here are all the details you need for the next Steam sale.
Next Steam Sale Date And Time
The next big Steam sale will be the Winter Sale coming on Thursday, December 21st, 2023, at 10 AM PST/6 PM GMT. This end of year blowout will last until January 4th, 2023. As the name implies, this event will offer tons of discounts for games across the Steam library with no certain theme. Prices will be dropping like snow this December, so get your credit cards ready.
The sale will launch everywhere at the same time, no matter what time zone you’re in. So, you can’t use a VPN to get the goodies a day in advance.
Types Of Steam Sales
There are generally only two types of big Steam sales: Seasonal Sales and Fests.
As the name implies, Seasonal Sales are sales that happen during each of the four seasons: Winter, Spring, Summer, and Autumn. These are recurring events, so mark your calendars every year to get ready for them.
Fests are events that feature games that belong to a specific genre. For example, a Stealth Fest will feature games focusing on stealth, such as Alien: Isolation, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, and Sniper Ghost Warrior Contracts 2.
Fests are not fixed yearly events. If a Mystery Fest occurs in February of a certain year, that doesn’t mean it’ll come back during the next February. In fact, it might not even come out at all next year.
Also, Fests don’t just offer sales for games in a specific genre. They also advertise upcoming games in the genre, feature demos, and sometimes even give away games for free.
The only exception is the Next Fest, which occurs every February, June, and October. Although, Steam’s Next Fests don’t focus on giving away discounts. They’re meant to simply celebrate and explore future titles coming to the platform. Though they do offer tons of demos for upcoming games.
How Long Do Steam Sales Usually Last?
It depends on how significant the sale is.
Steam’s biggest sales, usually the Summer and Winter sales, last for about two weeks. For example, the 2023 Winter sale coming this December will last for two weeks, from December 21 to January 4.
Their lesser sales, such as the Spring and Autumn sales, only last for a week. For example, the 2024 Spring Sale will only last from March 14-21. Steam Fests usually fall into this category as well.
Of course, there doesn’t have to be an event sale to get cheaper games. Games on Steam can go on sale by themselves, although the price drops may not be as big. Just check out Steam’s Special Offers section on your main Steam store page.

Steam announces their sales months in advance to give publishers enough time to plan out their sales. Of course, this also gives gamers enough time to plan which meals to skip to save some money. Here are all the sales Steam currently has scheduled.

A Fest dedicated to answering the age-old question: who will win? Pirates or ninjas? If you’re a fan of either or both, you’ll want to save up for this one. Games based on pirates and/or ninjas will be featured here.
- Next Fest: February 2024: February 5-12, 2024
Steam’s February 2024 Next Fest.
- Remote Play Together Fest- February 12-19, 2024
If you have lots of long-distance friends, this is the event for you. Games that use the Remote Play Together feature get to shine here.
- Dinos vs. Robots Fest – February 26 – March 4, 2024
The old vs. the new. This fest will center around games that primarily feature dinosaurs, robots, or both if you’re lucky.
- Spring Sale 2024 – March 14-21, 2024
Steam’s 2024 Spring Seasonal Sale.
- Deckbuilders Fest: March 25 – April 1, 2024
Believe in the heart of the cards and hope for some awesome deals on Deckbuilding games in this fest.
