Ahead of Gamescom and the closed beta launch on August 31st, SEGA and Creative Assembly have shared a brand new gameplay trailer for their upcoming zero gravity extraction shooter, Hyenas. The new trailer showcases the various weapons, heroes and abilities you can get to grips with, along with some of the robot enemies protecting that precious loot. Check it out for yourself at the top of the page.

In Hyenas, players will pick from a selection of heroes and form teams of three to raid a Plundership, vessels of the rich and wealthy transporting valuable Merch from a ruined Earth to Mars. Naturally, you’ll want to get in, dodge the resident MURF security drones, grab the loot and make your escape, but the problem is that you’ll be competing with four other crews in the process, meaning things get competitive real quick.

Once one team has the Merch, the VIP Extraction is finally revealed on the map, and the team with the loot has to make their escape while everyone else tries to stop them. Throughout all this, you’re contending with massive robot enemies picking fights with everyone, and zero gravity rooms that turn simple gunfights into dangerous skirmishes where death could come from any angle.

While we’ve raised concerns in the past about the amount of extraction shooters that are in the upcoming release pipeline, including Marathon, Fairgame$, ARC Raiders and more, Hyenas at least looks to offer a genuinely fun blend of fast-paced gameplay, interesting mechanics and SEGA-flavoured nostalgia. I’d much rather compete with other players for a massive Sonic statue than just regular old cash.

Hopefully, after this gameplay trailer, Hyenas will be able to live up to the hype with its closed beta starting on August 31st via Steam. Hyenas has also been confirmed for a console release too, so we’re definitely excited to see how this one turns out.
