Insurgency: Sandstorm Will Release On Consoles Next Spring

Developers New World Interactive have confirmed that their tactical FPS Insurgency: Sandstorm will be coming to consoles during Spring 2020. Insurgency has always been pegged for a console release at some point, but considering that the game has been available on PC since December 2018, many had given up hope on seeing Insurgency on consoles.

A Reddit post from Head of Production Derek Czerkaski delves into the reasoning behind the delay on the console release, stating that they wanted to make sure the game was optimised enough to release on console. To that end, New World Interactive have partnered with Black Tower Studios, who will be lending a hand with porting Insurgency: Sandstorm. As an added bonus, console players will receive a brand new, timed exclusive map for two weeks after the game’s launch, after which the map will go live for PC players.

Unfortunately, the push for optimisation for both the PC version and the inevitable console release means that new content has been pushed back a bit, which makes sense. Better to work on getting the game up to an impeccable standard first and foremost instead of trying to burn the candle at both ends.

We review Insurgency: Sandstorm back when in launched in December 2018, and our reviewer Nick found it to be one of the best shooters of the year. Are you excited about its launch on consoles? Sound off in the comments below.
