Fortnite: Can You Play Offline?

Fortnite has revolutionised online gaming as we know it, with so many people trying so hard over so many years to emulate its success. While it’s a multiplayer game through and through, you might be wondering if you can play the game offline at all.

The answer is no, you can’t play Fortnite offline. You can’t even access the main menu of the game without an internet connection. If you have no internet, you can’t play Fortnite at all, not even in any of its single-player modes or offerings.

This is because everything you do in Fortnite is tied to your Epic Games account, which needs to be connected to the internet at all times to ensure that you have the right to access and use your cosmetics and general content, like Save the World. It’s also needed to track your progress for things like quests and general statistics.

It’s a shame that Fortnite cannot be played offline at all, even in something like bot lobbies or in a single-player Creative map like a deathrun. We’ve seen how frustrated people have become with Epic in the past when the game’s servers haven’t worked and they haven’t been able to play the game, so you wonder if they will ever add offline support.

Epic would be wise to do that, as there will come a time that Fortnite will go offline permanently after it loses popularity, as that’s what happens to the vast majority of games over time. It will be interesting to see what kind of legacy Fortnite will leave behind once that day comes.
