If you thought Akaza was bad, wait till you hear about Doma

Out of all the anime we’ve seen so far, you’ve got to admit that Demon Slayer has some of the most stylish villains. Muzan’s Twelve Kizuki are as gorgeously animated as they’re wicked, at least that’s true of the ones we have already been introduced to. From those who haven’t yet had their time in the spotlight, Doma, the Upper Rank Two Demon (aka Upper Moon Two), appearing in Demon Slayer has become the talk of the town.

We first saw Doma being teased near the end of Demon Slayer: Season 2 where he was revealed to be the person who turned Gyutaro and Daki into demons. A few seconds of screen time was enough to hype up anime-only watchers, and that’s understandable since every Upper Moon has proven to be insanely strong.

There’s also the fact that a Hashira always ends up either dying (Rengoku) or getting his hand chopped off (Tengen) every time one of the Upper Twelve Kizuki shows up, so it’s crystal clear why fans are shivering in anticipation. But if curiosity has piqued your interest beyond control, and you’d like to know more about this infamous oni, here’s his entire character overview.

Who Is Doma In Demon Slayer?

Doma is the Upper Moon Two of the Twelve Kizuki, and apart from Muzan and Kokushibo, no demon surpasses him in terms of prowess. He’s also the leader of the Eternal Paradise Cult, a group of anarchists that spreads terror throughout the realm and enforces its evil ideology onto others.

He was turned into a demon by Muzan more than a century before the events of the Demon Slayer anime began. Initially, his title was Upper Moon Six, but the way the manga tells it, Doma was later promoted to Upper Moon Two, although there isn’t a definitive answer as to how he rose in rankings.

What Are Doma’s Powers In Demon Slayer?

Being the third strongest demon in the world, Doma is exceptionally powerful due to his plethora of abilities and experience spanning over 130 years. Akaza’s the highest-ranking demon we’ve seen fighting in the anime series till now, and despite him being lower ranked in comparison, he made relatively quick work of Rengoku during the Mugen Train incident, so you can only imagine what that says of the Upper Moon Two’s strength.

In the manga, he’s portrayed as a sinister being who lacks all emotions befitting a demon, but the scary part is that even before he was turned by Muzan, Doma did not have any human emotions. Besides a high intellect and rapid regeneration, he uses the Cryokinesis Blood Art which allows him to incorporate ice and frost into his attacks, and that together with his War Fans makes for a deadly combo brutal enough to take down the toughest of Hashira.

Which Arc Will Doma Be The Villain In Demon Slayer?

With Demon Slayer: Season 3 finally releasing now, everyone has their sights set on seeing who the big bad for the Sword Smith Village Arc is. Unfortunately, don’t expect to witness Doma in action just yet as Hantengu (Upper Moon Four) will be the main antagonist of the newest season.

The Infinity Castle Arc is when Doma will finally play the role of the villain, and that should probably be animated in the next season. The Demon Slayer Corps will plan an assault on Muzan’s demon fortress, and when the battle in the anime begins, you’ll find the Upper Moon Two waiting to greet all invading Hashira with killer hospitality.

Who Voices Doma In Demon Slayer?

Doma is voiced by Mamoru Miyano in the Japanese version of Demon Slayer, while Stephen Fu is the voice actor for the English dubbing. Mamoru Miyano is pretty gifted at playing menacing characters, especially since he’s the actor behind the iconic dialog and terrifying laughter of Light Yagami from Death Note.

As for Stephen Fu, you may know him from his English voiceover for Sang-woo, the deuteragonist of Netflix’s hit K-drama Squid Game. As Ufotable has chosen such stellar actors for both languages, there will definitely be a couple of Doma catchphrases we’ll remember many years even after the Infinity Castle Arc is animated.

These were just a couple of crazy details about Doma, and although they do seem epic, we’ve barely even scratched the surface of how meticulous his character is. His backstory, and confrontations with the Hashira coming up are a real treat to witness, but talking about those would have spoiled the story, and it’s far better if you’re amazed by watching it first hand when the anime ultimately reaches that point.
