Battleborn Day Saved the Game, But Only Temporarily

The embattled Battleborn has had a rough go of it since launch. It’s had to deal with misconceptions about it being too similar to Overwatch an–yeah, that’s pretty much it. Gamers just haven’t been able to latch onto it like they should.

Last week, Battleborn Day was announced: a collaborative effort between members of the game’s subreddit that was designed to make it easier on new players to get involved. Noticing the potential of the event, 2K even pledged to bring special bonuses, which did a lot to improve the amount of concurrent players. Battleborn has been averaging 400 in recent times, Battleborn Day saw the game’s playerbase rise to 709.

That’s not bad, but it’s not great. Battleborn needs to realistically be pulling in thousands of concurrent players to sustain itself against the almost absurd amount of competition. The momentum was quickly lost after the bonuses went away and business returned to normal.

It’s a shame, but at least it shows what happens when gamers put their heads together. 2K and Battleborn just really need to work out a way to take it F2P as it’s not even the most feasible rival to Overwatch anymore. They should take a leaf out of Paladins’ book, which went from an easy joke to a serious competitor to Blizzard’s monster.
