Battleborn Day Will See Fans Trying to Save the Game Tomorrow

Battleborn

Belittling Battleborn as an already dead game is one of the internet’s favourite hobbies these days. Post-mortems are already being conducted as to how and why such a solid game could fall by the wayside so drastically, despite a strong amount of hype and build. Despite the tide always turning against them, Battleborn’s fans aren’t going to take its “death” lying down.

The competitive shooter’s community have come together to declare November 12th Battleborn Day. Long-standing and respected players will be doing all they can to guide newcomers through the game’s many layers and show that it is only 10% similar to Overwatch at best, because it is. It’s had other issues apart from Blizzard’s monolith, which included technical problems during launch, but the misconception about it being Overwatch’s inferior is the biggest.

In the Reddit post, bkndx put out a call to arms:

“So let’s talk about why it didn’t succeed at the beginning, Overwatch competition, lackluster marketing, bugs glitches and balancing issues. As time went on the problems shifted to low player base, and a large skill gap, matchmSo the question is how do we bring new players and keep them. Well if we can get an event going for a day where we get as many players online to play as many games as they can, this will solve matchmaking issues and allow everyone to try the game. As a community of high level elites we should recognize that if we get this going there’s going to be a huge influx of newbs. We should be doing our best to not pubstomp and ruin their first impressions of the game so please, no double legendary loadouts. Experiment with new characters and try to keep away from the meta. We will shoot for the second Saturday of November starting at 3:00 est?”

Seeing the potential, a Gearbox employee who is an active member of the subreddit worked some magic to bring special incentives for people to jump in for the first time or to make a return from 7 PM Eastern on Friday to 11 AM on Sunday:

– The badassest of badass in-game events: prepare for Lootpocalypse, Play with the Devs, Double XP, and Double – – – Credits all rolled into one phenomenal weekend!
– A special “Battleborn Day Queue” with all kinds of fan-favorite maps and modes
– Try out all 29 Battleborn heroes! Every character will be temporarily unlocked for all players
– Enjoy 20% off all skins and taunts in the in-game Marketplace
– Swag giveaways on the Battleborn Facebook and Twitter channels
– AND MORE!

Battleborn has plenty going for it, but it just needs something “killer”. The game’s had tonnes of updates and DLC, but it simply isn’t sticking. It has a low amount of concurrent players on Steam and even less on console. It came free with my Xbox One S when I picked one up and I have yet to find a match (though this is down to impatience more than anything).

Here’s hoping Battleborn Day is a success and that we don’t have to pour one out for the game just yet. There’s always F2P, too.
