CD PROJEKT RED has announced that the long rumoured new DLC for The Witcher 3 is actually coming and it’s called Songs of the Past, set to launch in 2027 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and S, and PC.
The expansion will once again place players in the role of Geralt of Rivia for a brand-new adventure, and the third story DLC for the third game overall. CD PROJEKT RED is co-developing Songs of the Past alongside Fool’s Theory, a studio made up of developers who previously worked on The Witcher 3.
Further details on the expansion are expected to be shared in late summer 2026. No trailer or anything yet, just the above key art.
Originally released in 2015, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has sold more than 60 million copies worldwide. The RPG has also received more than 250 Game of the Year awards and over 1,000 industry awards since launch. Not bad, eh.
This has to be close to the longest time for a new expansion for an old single-player game. Commander Lilith & the Fight for Sanctuary DLC for Borderlands 2 was 7 years on from its original release date, but that’s also a co-op game. Quake 1 and 2 may take the cake though, as the 1990s classics received Dimension of the Machine and Call of the Machine expansions alongside their Enhanced Edition re-releases.
