Animal Crossing: New Horizons: What Does The Desktop Computer Do?

Windows XP vibes.

Desktop Computer New Horizons 2

If you’re looking to build your dream home without spending real money, Animal Crossing: New Horizons may be the perfect place to do just that. Packed with loads of customisation options and a whole tonne of items to unlock, things like the Desktop Computer are some of the most sought after in the whole game.

The Desktop Computer can be purchased from Nook’s Cranny for a pretty hefty 100,000 Bells. It’s the only place where you can find the Desktop Computer in the game, it does not appear out of a balloon and cannot be crafted.

As for what it does, it is a mostly static object that is, like most things in New Horizons, entirely ornamental. You can turn the screen on and off and that’s about it.

However, you can customize it by buying customization kits from Nook’s Cranny. Customization kits cost 600 Bells each or 3000 Bells for 5 in a bundle. Head on over to a DIY workbench and then choose the option to customize. You will need to have unlocked the ability to do this from Tom Nook first, of course.

These customizations range from different browsers appearing on the screen all the way up to being able to choose your very own custom designs for the background.

The Desktop Computer takes up 1×1 squares of space, so it works well if you, aptly enough, but it on top of a desk or table. You should be able to build a table from the DIY recipes you find over the course of the game, which can also be customized themselves.

If you’re struggling to find the Desktop Computer in New Horizons, don’t forget to browse community sites like Nookazon so you can buy it from another player, albeit at quite the premium. Failing that, it may be worth asking around your friends to see if they have one in their catalogue they can send you.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is out now exclusively for the Nintendo Switch. From our review:

“New Horizons is a great continuation of an already fantastic series of games, and paying back Tom Nook’s loan has never been so fun.”
