Is Alan Wake 2 Coming To Steam?

After one of the biggest cliffhanger endings and over 10 years of waiting patiently, Remedy Entertainment’s creepy action-adventure game, Alan Wake, has a sequel. Fans can head right back into Bright Falls with their favorite crime fiction author. But is Alan Wake 2 ever coming to Steam?

The game was announced in December 2021 at The Game Awards. There is still no official release date, and the terrifying sequel likely won’t be released until sometime in 2023. This isn’t that long of a wait unless, of course, you beat Alan Wake when it originally came out.

Alan Wake 2 will launch on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X & S. Although the game will be released on PC, Remedy Entertainment made a deal with Epic Games to publish the game, so it doesn’t seem like there’ll be any chance of Alan Wake 2 coming to Steam.

About Alan Wake 2

In a PlayStation blog post about the heavily anticipated sequel, Remedy Entertainment’s creative director, Sam Lake, said Alan Wake 2 will be the studio’s first survival horror game and not an action game with horror elements like its predecessor. This insinuates that Alan Wake 2 is much more terrifying than Alan Wake was, considering the studio that developed the original doesn’t even consider it a horror game.

Alan Wake 2 will be a third-person game, with both Ilkka Villi and Matthew Poretta returning for the role of Alan Wake, as was confirmed in a tweet from Sam Lake himself. With “monsters wear many faces” as the tagline, we can piece together some ideas about what will transpire in the Alan Wake sequel.

If you’ve played Alan Wake, Control, and all of the related DLC, you would know that Alan Wake is stuck in the Dark Place, and Mr. Scratch, Alan Wake’s evil double, is still out there. There is evidence that Mr. Scratch will be in Alan Wake 2 in the trailer, specifically the jump cut to Alan Wake, or rather Mr. Scratch, baring his teeth while covered in blood.

Since Alan Wake 2 is considered a survival horror game, it’ll likely be less action-based than the original and far more creepy, making players work for every last resource. It’s been over a decade since Alan Wake came out, so the game’s cult-like following has high expectations for Remedy and Alan Wake 2.

Alan Wake 2 & Steam

Alan Wake 2 won’t be released until next year, and it’ll launch on the PS5, Xbox Series X & S, and PC. However, a PC release doesn’t guarantee that the game will come to Steam.

Unfortunately, Alan Wake 2 won’t be available on Steam. Remedy Entertainment made a deal with Epic Games, allowing them to publish the studio’s next two games. The first was Alan Wake Remastered, and the second will be Alan Wake 2.

Alan Wake 2 isn’t like other timed exclusives that Epic has had. The game likely won’t ever head to Steam since it’s published by Epic Games. Luckily, you can still add EGS games to Steam fairly easily.
