Given that A Plague Tale: Requiem is designed for the most cutting edge hardware on the market, it’s not surprising to learn that the game supports High Dynamic Range, or HDR for short. To be fair, if any game needs it, it’d be A Plague Tale, as it goes from bright to dark pretty quickly depending on how many rats are on screen. Here’s everything you need to know about enabling HDR in A Plague Tale: Requiem.

If you’re playing A Plague Tale: Requiem on PC, PS5 or Xbox Series X & S, you actually won’t need to enable the HDR setting, as it should be on by default depending on your console settings and whether or not your TV supports the feature. At that point, you’ll just need to go into the game’s options menu, head to display settings and then from there, you can tinker around with the game’s internal HDR brightness settings to make sure they’re right for you.

If you’ve booted up A Plague Tale: Requiem and it’s not showing anything regarding HDR, you’ll need to make sure the feature is on in your console settings. If you’re playing on PC, you’ll have to enable HDR within Windows itself by going to Settings > System > Display and then toggle Use HDR to on. Or, you may just need to upgrade to a new TV or monitor, which is obviously easier said than done given the current climate.

Typically, HDR is a setting that’s designed to make your games much more vibrant and full of life, so you typically don’t want to turn it off, but sometimes it might not look the best on certain TVs, especially if the TV itself isn’t calibrated properly. Once you’ve done some testing, then you’ll be able to see whether HDR in A Plague Tale: Requiem is right for you.

A Plague Tale: Requiem is available on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X & S.
