Is WWE 2K23 Coming To Switch?

It’s been a long time since Switch owners last got their hands on a brand new, fully featured WWE 2K game. Excluding WWE 2K Battlegrounds, a very rushed, rather undercooked spin-off, the last mainline WWE 2K game to land on a Nintendo console was the very rushed, rather undercooked WWE 2K18, a port so bad that it’s recognised as one of the worst games to ever hit the console. But could the absence finally end, and will WWE 2K23 be coming to the Switch?

The answer is no, WWE 2K23 is not planned to come to the Nintendo Switch. No news has been released about it from either Visual Concepts or 2K, but considering that WWE 2K22 never saw a Switch port, it should be no surprise. There’s also the fact that the Switch could barely handle WWE 2K18 (and that’s being kind), so asking it to try and run a ninth-generation game when it’s well over five years old and never that strong to begin with is a bit too much of a stretch.

This doesn’t completely rule out the possibility of WWE 2K23 ever coming to Switch, as lots of AAA games have arrived via the cloud, such as Resident Evil 7 and Hitman. While not exactly the most popular way of playing games on the Switch, as you basically take away its portable nature, streaming does open a door that the Switch’s hardware limitations closed, but we honestly wouldn’t hold out any hope of seeing 2K23 on the Switch in any form.

About WWE 2K23

WWE 2K23 is the latest in a long line of licensed WWE games published by 2K, but only the second one fully developed by Visual Concepts on their own after Yuke’s walked away from their long-time franchise. Following the disastrous launch of WWE 2K20, WWE 2K22 came out almost two years later to a very positive reaction, with many believing it to be the rejuvenation the series needed.

WWE 2K23 looks like building on the foundations of last year’s game, though doesn’t seem to be as big a reinvention from what we’ve seen. WarGames will be a match type for the first time in a WWE game and John Cena’s glittering career will be the focus of Showcase mode, but apart from that you should expect iterative changes, like better visuals and smoother gameplay, including a brand new pinning mechanic. Players can expect to see MyGM, MyRise, MyFaction and Universe mode to all return this year. Let’s hope ladder matches are about half as chaotic and glitchy this time out, too.

WWE 2K23 is scheduled to launch on March 17th, 2023 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X & S. Players who purchase the game’s most expensive editions can start playing from March 14th.
