WARHAMMER 3 FACTIONS: Daemons of Chaos | Grand Cathay | Khorne | Kislev | Nurgle | Ogre Kingdoms | Slaanesh | Tzeentch
When you think of Warhammer, you’ve likely heard the Khorne follower battle cry: “Blood for the Blood God! Skulls for the Skull Throne!” Representing Khorne’s interests in Total War: Warhammer 3’s campaign is Skarbrand the Exiled One, the greatest of all of Khorne’s greater Daemons who’s wronged their master in the past and is now looking for redemption. You can now head the legions of the Blood God’s warrior and bring ruin to the world.
Here are the main features of Khorne’s faction in Total War: Warhammer 3:
– Skulls
– Bloodletting
– Drawn to Destruction
– Khorne Army
And here’s everything you need to know about Khorne.
Skulls
Just as the battle cry implies, Khorne’s main resource is skulls. They are collected from doing battle, razing settlements, and generally conquering, slaughtering, and ensuring the death and destruction of anything you can see.
Skulls are needed for most of Khorne’s strategic needs, such as researching new technologies, settling, and requesting a boon from the Chaos God directly. As long as the supply of skulls keeps flowing, Khorne will be happy and Skarbrand’s economy will be sustained.
Bloodletting
Khorne’s whole deal is glorious combat and victory. Skarbrand’s forces directly benefit from finding a healthy supply of new enemies to fight and maintaining a continuous victory streak to sate the Blood God’s thirst for war.
Every army following Khorne has a tiered meter positioned at the bottom left of the screen next to the lord portrait. Players will need to win a certain amount of victories to move up the meter, with each tier of bloodletting unlocking new benefits and bonuses.
Bloodletting levels don’t hold forever, so it’s vital to continue fighting, but, most importantly winning, to keep the level high for maximum benefit. This has to be done for every army under your command. Luckily, all non-Chaos-aligned factions automatically start at war with you so there shouldn’t be a problem finding fresh challengers to let the blood flow.
Drawn to Destruction
Khorne’s forces are naturally destructive in their mission, leaving many settlements sacked, looted, or, more likely, razed. Where for most factions this means a costly resettlement effort, Khorne’s allies see opportunity.
As long as a Khorne-aligned faction controls at least one settlement in a province, any razed settlements will over time automatically resettle with Khorne’s followers so that you’re spending more time laying waste to the world and less about babysitting logistics and resettlement efforts. However, do keep in mind that other factions may profit off of your efforts and settle razed settlements before this mechanic gets a chance to proc, so it may be worth periodically returning to old stomping grounds to clear out any unwelcome intruders.
One of the most useful components of Khorne’s faction is the ability to summon a Blood Host army. When you raze a settlement a new temporary army will spawn that can’t share or recruit new units. A free army is always handy and can be used to reinforce non-Blood Host armies or go off on their own path and raze untouched lands.
Khorne Army
Of all the Chaos Gods, Khorne’s fighting style is most straightforward – close-in with the enemy and defeat them in glorious hand-to-hand carnage, where the superior quality of Khorne’s Daemons and fighters will usually carry the day. This means that the units of the Blood God have high armor values, high melee stats, have high leadership, and are geared towards grinding the enemy down.
They aren’t particularly fast and the lack of ranged units means Khorne may struggle in dealing with lighter and faster enemies, such as Slaanesh, Tzeentch, and Kislev and the faction’s complete distaste for magic further limits tactical support options. Nevertheless, as soon as you find a way to cross the distance and greet the enemy with sword and axe, victory will be assured.
Khorne’s simplicity and direct nature make this faction dynamic, aggressive, and murderously fun. In fact, Total War fits Khorne perfectly, but this doesn’t mean that you can swat away all roadblocks with ease. How will you meet unexpected challenges?
