The Division 2 Mods Guide: How To Craft Mods, Skill Power & More

Go away, Paul Weller.

The Division 2

One of the major differences between The Division 1 and 2 is that mods and attachments aren’t considered loot anymore. Instead, you unlock them as part of a skill tree. This means that once an attachment is unlocked it is made available to any and all applicable weapons you have.

This greatly streamlines inventory management, but there are still some quirks to the system that can be really hard to pick up on if you are new to the game, especially when it comes to the mysterious skill power number. This is where we come in with this handy mod and attachment guide you can use as a reference point when leveling your character.

How do I get weapon mods in The Division 2?

The Division 2 weapon Mods

The basic weapon mods in The Division 2 are all perk unlocks that you can enable by spending SHD points. These attachments all come with pros and cons. For instance, a grip might improve your stability or accuracy but in turn, increase your reload times. Which mods and attachments to equip are up to you and your particular play style. Some mods can also work to mitigate drawbacks from others so there is quite a lot of flexibility in how you spec out your guns. That said, since the attachments aren’t loot anymore it means that they are all the same. So a vertical grip will grant 10% accuracy at a cost of 8% stability for all weapons and for all players, for example.

As it isn’t really explained by the game, finding your mods can be confusing at first. In your inventory, move to the gun want to mod and hit the mod button; this is X by default on an Xbox controller. In the mod menu, you will see the weapon’s hardpoints. It on these points that you equip your attachments. If you are unsure about how well an attachment will perform, you can always try it out on the shooting range to see DPS numbers and handling across different ranges.

What are Skill Mods in The Division 2?

A thing that took me quite some time to realize is that your skills also have attachment slots in this game. What’s more, they work slightly different from weapon mods. They are not unlockable via SHD points but must be crafted or dropped as loot. Another thing that is completely unexplained, and very obtuse if you haven’t played the Division 1, is that they come with skill power requirements.

What the heck is skill power in The Division and how do I get it?

The Division 2 Skill power

In The Division 2, some high-level gear will grant a bonus to your skill power, an unexplained number on the left side of your inventory. To raise the overall skill power, you need to get your hands on gear which grants a boost to this stat, usually blue or higher. If you find or craft a mod that you can’t equip you will simply have to either buy/make some new gear or wait until something more powerful drops in order to make this number go up. There isn’t really any sure way of getting gear with this stat but over time you should be getting plenty.

Outside of unlocking them on a skill tree there are a select number of weapon mods that you can craft in order to get. These usually have slightly different stats on them and can be well worth seeking out. Once you unlock the crafting table at your Base of Operations it is time to hunt for blueprints. These are often rewarded for completing settlement tasks or doing side missions, so it is a good incentive to start knocking those out.

Same goes for skill mods; they are completely reliant upon rare drops and blueprints. In my experience, they often drop from the locked faction chests, so keeping an eye out for keys is a good idea. I have had the best luck in finding keys in the underground areas you sometimes come across as you traverse the city.

Once you have the blueprints for new weapon and skill mods, you just need to get to the White House and craft them at the crafting station. Some of the rarer mods will need some high-level materials which you, in turn, get from scrapping high-level gear. So be sure not to sell everything that you are not using. Once crafted, they are added to the inventory ready to be used on the skill or weapon at will — you do not have to craft them again for the next weapon you equip.

So there you have some short and fast tips to make sense of mods and skill power in The Division 2. It isn’t explained very well within the game itself but really starts becoming essential once you get up to around level 12.
