Rainbow Six Siege: Ubisoft Working On Improving Hit Registration and Rubber Banding

Rainbow Six Siege

As with almost every multiplayer FPS out there, Rainbow Six Siege has some issues with its hit registration and rubber banding and has done ever since it launched at the back end of 2015.

If you aren’t in the know and want a simple explanation (because that’s the only one I have for you), Siege players can often find themselves shooting enemies in the head and not getting the instant kill or they’re bugging out across the room, teleporting from one spot to another, or just being stuck in place. In a game of Ranked, lag like that could create a win or lose situation.

This happens because there is a lag between the player and the game’s servers, which could be caused by any number of things. The servers may not be properly optimised or at capacity, but it seems to get much worse with every update until it’s eventually stitched together.

If there was a genuine fix for it, you would imagine that Ubisoft would have already found a way of eliminating the issue by now. But that doesn’t stop them from promising to try and find a solution.

Speaking at a Velvet Shell presentation, creative director Xavier Marquis said the following:

“Reliability of the connection is going to significantly improve this year.”

He then went on to say how much of a priority the hit registration is for Siege going forward and it’s something the team will be working on. Quite how they manage it is a mystery, but here’s hoping they can iron out the kinks.

Siege is on the last legs of its free weekend before Velvet Shell officially kicks off on Feb 7th. We already know there won’t be any new game modes and that there will be a new loot system, so we’re already pretty excited for the second year.
