Rainbow Six Siege: Velvet Shell New Operators Jackal and Mira Showcased

Ahead of the official launch of Operation Velvet Shell, the first expansion for Rainbow Six Siege‘s hotly-anticipated second season, Ubisoft shared some more details about its two new operators.

Taking place during a panel and flanked by a very awkward looking cosplay group, the developers talked about what to expect and filled the audience in on Mira and Jackal’s loadouts and unique traits. From the looks of them, we can expect a mid-season nerf as they already seem way, way overpowered.

During a break from the Rainbow Six Invitational, the panel gave plenty of reasons to be excited before the Feb 7th when Velvet Shell officially rolls out.

Weirdly enough, the gameplay shown didn’t actually showcase Jackal’s visor, which allows him to see the footprints of defenders. The biggest takeaway has to be the G.E.O operator having a shotgun as a sidearm, which brought a lot of excitement from the crowd.

His loadout includes: C7E (30-round magazine assault rifle), PDW9 (50-round drum SMG), or an ITA 12L shotgun for primary. If players are feeling crazy, they can also choose a shotgun as their secondary thanks to the ITA 12S, a short-range version of the ITA 12L. A USP 40 is also available as a sidearm, but who would realistically be using that?

The heroine that blessed Tachanka with the gift or relevancy was further detailed at the panel and, oh my, is she going to be highly sought after.

Boasting a Vector, one of the most powerful guns with an insane rate of fire, Mira is able to put up to two “mirrors” on destructible walls. The idea is that this gives the defender a better vantage of oncoming attackers, though you get the impression that Ubisoft have more to say about what she can do.

Her loadout also includes a shotgun and C4, though the developers didn’t go into much other information. Thermite and Hibana are her only foils as they can destroy her mirrors.

From the looks of things, the new operators have been designed to try and negate roamers somewhat to try to return Siege to some of the twitchy, nail-biting stand-offs it was known for when it first started. Although Mira stretches plausibility slightly, both Velvet Shell operators are seemingly more grounded than the silliness we were getting at the end of the first season.
