With wide open areas to discover and a lot of ground to make up, you’ll be pleased to know that the bike makes a return in Pokémon Sword and Shield, but this time in the form of the Rotom Bike.
The Rotom Bike allows you to get from point A to B much quicker and also take part in a Rotom Rally. It’s not as quick as Flying Taxis, which are the designated fast travel mechanic of the game, but they are very useful for getting around Wild Areas.
It does take a little while to get it, though. You need to have beaten the first gym in Turffield before you can access it.
Once you’ve done that, the story takes you along Route 5. You are rewarded the Rotom Bike for beating two Team Yell members on a bridge. For reference, it’s really close to the first Nursery you encounter where you can breed Pokémon.
The below is where you can find the Rotom Bike on your map.
With the Rotom Bike in your inventory, simply use the + or – buttons to get on it and ride around and the same to jump off. If you want to go faster, you can upgrade it by talking to the right people in a Wild Area.
And no, sadly you can’t ride it inside a Pokémon Center. Some mad modder will probably make that a reality before long, though.
Pokémon Sword and Shield are out now on Nintendo Switch.
