Pokémon Sword and Shield: How To Breed Pokémon

Let's get it on.

Pokemon Sword and Shield

Pokémon breeding has been a big part of the franchise since the Gold and Silver days, allowing two Pokémon of different sexes to create a Pokémon Egg, from which a new Pokémon will be born. How do you breed Pokémon in Pokémon Sword and Shield, though? Luckily for you, it’s fairly straightforward, though you will need to have made a decent dent in the game first.

First of all, you need to find your way to the Nursery on Route 5. Here’s where you can find it on your map.

You will need to have beaten the first gym, Turffield Gym, before you can get access to Route 5, so bear that in mind.

Here’s what the outside of the Nursery looks like. You will need to talk to the girl to the left.

Pokemon breeding 2

She will ask you if you want to leave two Pokémon with her. We would recommend leaving two of the same species of Pokémon, or at least two of the same type. Remember that they must also be of different sexes if you want them to breed, because biology.

If the Pokémon are compatible, the girl will give you a Pokémon Egg when you return after a while. What hatches from this egg varies, but it will be a level 1 Pokémon, so you better send them out on Poké Jobs.

Make sure you leave the egg in your party and then wait a little while for it to hatch. It won’t hatch in a box.

Pokémon Sword and Shield are out now on Nintendo Switch.
