The crafting process in Outriders, the latest looter shooter from Square Enix and People Can Fly that’s available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X | S, uses a lot of resources that can be confusing to many players. While Iron, Leather and Titanium have more tangible purposes, Shards are a bit more confusing. Here’s what you need to know.

Unlike Iron, Leather and Titanium, which can all be found in the game world in some form or fashion, Shards can only be obtained by disassembling weapons and armour, meaning you might want to hold off on selling all your unused gear to a vendor straight away.

As you disassemble gear, you’ll receive Shards in various categories, such as “Bonus Firepower” or “Max Health” and so on. These Shards correspond to the bonus attributes you’ll find on all your gear. You can then take your gear into the crafting menu, and use your Shards to level up these attributes. It’s an aspect of the crafting process that exists outside of your Iron, Leather and Titanium, but it’ll allow you to create some truly devastating builds.
