A new report from the website Thurrott has revealed that the development of Halo Infinite has been through years of struggles, which ultimately led to the game’s recent delay. Despite a gameplay reveal failing to set the world on fire, the delay was shocking as it left Microsoft without a major first-party exclusive, but according to this report, this delay was a long time coming.

The report states there’s been plenty of factors that’s attributed to the game’s delay, with one of the most notable being that Infinite is a re-imagining for Halo, running on a brand new engine developed in tandem with the game while trying to shoot for new console specs that are constantly changing throughout the course of development.

The other major problem is outsourcing, with the management of multiple in-house and third party developers proving to be more difficult than expected, especially considering the higher ratio than usual of third party contractors compared to in-house developer. It’s these issues that lead to creative director Tim Longo leaving the project in August 2019, followed swiftly by his successor, Mary Olsen, in October. The report also mentions that the discussion of splitting Halo into separate parts has been on the table since late 2019.

Halo Infinite is set to launch in 2021 on Xbox One, Xbox Series X and PC. What are your thoughts on this report? Let us know in the comments.
